Idea for Activision's first Halo: Spinoff farming simulator set on Harvest before and during the events of Contact Harvest. Stakes are high, leading the breadbasket of the complicated war against other humans. Until winter of year 2, when the stakes get even higher and the gameplay changes entirely

KellyCrystal also has a few big fangames that I haven't played, and I'm excluding the many ROMhacks out there, but I'm mostly focusing on remake-style fangames.

Going to play through the mainline 2D Metroid series in release order, including notable fangames. NEStroid, II, Super, Fusion, Zero Mission, AM2R (2.0 by then hopefully), Samus Returns, Dread, Prime 2D, Prime Origins fangame, then M. Planets Anything big I'm missing?

quadruple-entendre title for my scarlet letter modern-day adaptation, "Parish the Thot"

opossumcarrion @carrion.0xpossum.dev · 23/09/2026
The title, of course, has a dual interpretation of "EVERYTHING YOU CAN SEE". When inspectors would visit Theranos lab, they would hide things. They would inspect everything they could see.
YouTube screenshot with the text "YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING", with "EVERYTHING" wrapped around so that it is left-of-and-below, so that it might also read "EVERYTHING YOU CAN SEE". YouTube's "Show" button is in the top right.

As of Unicode 17.0, X也 should be in the standard, as well as a rare variation of 他 replacing the radical for person 人 with one more explicitly male ( 男也) These should be "𲎿" and "𲰼", respectively, but I don't know anyone or anywhere which supports them.

I say this all as an English-speaking American who speaks a little bit of Chinese trying to navigate some spaces. I am not an expert or authority. But for a few years I used 也 as a gender pronoun, so "it" is on the table, despite  他 having an ostensibly gender-neutral read

opossumcarrion @carrion.0xpossum.dev · 21/09/2026
他, or "he", is "it" 它 + person 人 她, or "she" is "it" 它 + woman 女 Other variations exist, like antiquated "牠" (e.g. used for the horror movie It) or "祂" for deities. Modern and intentionally gender-neutral variants proposed are X他 (where X is like a radical) or just "ta" (as in 我爱ta的狗)

It must be universal that language learners will sometimes mix things up when one word translates to two+ in another language. So, I'll hear Chinese new ESL sometimes say "he" for women (See also: Eng->Esp with I am -> Soy/estoy, etc.) "Ta" is practically almost already a gender neutral pronoun

Re: It/its pronouns: For a few years, my friend group were largely Chinese international students. In Chinese, singular pronouns are pronounced the same (ta), and only gender-differentiated only in writing (only recently, as ~100 yrs). He/she/it 他/她/它 and are made plural by adding "-men" (他们,etc)

I think I don't want a typical static site generator, I think I want the ability to write Markdown inside of, say, a <markdown> tag. With no support in HTML spec, and wanting not to require JavaScript, I'm surprised to find there is no such HTML preprocessor that does this?

We could replace the three-syllable "dou-ble-you" in W with "dub" or "dubs", giving us an alphabet composed of monosyllablic letters. Or, as a compromise, the two-syllable "dubya".

If we're thinking of the same video, that is actually a super atypical (but very cool) training setup where the architecture grows new neurons during training. Usually the architecture is fixed before training m.youtube.com/watch?v=qv6U...

(I do not know if there are any major spellcheckers which use transformers, but the iOS keyboard has had a small transformer built in since 2017, and I think it's very problematic, but for mostly different reasons than LLMs.)
000
opossumcarrion @carrion.0xpossum.dev · 19/09/2026
But social media algorithms specifically started adopting transformers since 2019 or so. These are the same kind of neural network architecture that all the LLM chatbots use, with largely the same risks and problems. I am saying this from an anti-AI place, we really should think of feeds as LLMs

people are always saying anti-AI arguments don’t understand the full nuances of the technology. which is correct. but only because it stole everyone’s work, exists solely to get you fired, has made the entire internet unusable and has been forced on everyone without consent

The companies which captured every aspect of public and private life - social networks, career, love, commerce, art, etc - are just employing the control that they always had. I don't have any knowledge that could guide us on how better to resist, unless I had the ear of two billion people.
000
opossumcarrion @carrion.0xpossum.dev · 19/09/2026
But is "Hey, your feed is just slop-curated posts, you're using AI" isn't useful for most people. Anti-AI beliefs aren't stronger than addictive AI-powered feeds. The only effect is that people feel dirty and conflicted with the info. But I feel doom, like over an extra-super-duper lost cause
100
opossumcarrion @carrion.0xpossum.dev · 19/09/2026
Further, social media feeds since ~2020 have largely been using seq2seq transformers, i.e. exactly the same things as in LLMs. Scrolling anywhere with "an algorithm" (X, IG, TT, YT) should be understood as "talking to an AI", the way AI is understood today, with all the same harms and risks.

opossumcarrion @carrion.0xpossum.dev · 19/09/2026
It'd be better if Team Anti-AI understood these models are capable and getting more capable over time. It has serious implications on how these can be weaponized, what labor can be replaced, etc. While not a pro-AI stance, one would only know that pace if exposed to and using LLMs daily.
110
opossumcarrion @carrion.0xpossum.dev · 19/09/2026
But what info is fruitful to provide, how do you fit the idea into 300 characters, etc? Is it worth correcting that Miyazaki didn't call AI an insult to life? That they aren't "predicting text" or pattern matching? That the cancer classifier examples are totally different than todays 'LLMs'? Etc

I used to do AI research, and so I had (and still have) difficulty with people on our side being very wrong all the time on technical matters. It can be isolating and kind of crazy-making. I think most people with this knowledge are pro-AI because they have the profit incentive to stay on that team

The Wii was announced later, and its virtual console. So by pure luck, I told people my uncle works at Nintendo and I had a sick leak for that, and it was all true by accident :^)

So of course, the schoolyear starts, I go on the playground, telling people about the hot gossip: The GameCube 2 would have every old Nintendo game on it! NES, SNES. Extrapolating, I added, maybe even the Nintendo 64 and GameCube! I was playing them at home, so I knew I was telling the truth.

opossumcarrion @carrion.0xpossum.dev · 16/09/2026
But I was a goody-two-shoes and I had heard of piracy, and I was quickly worried: Was this illegal? Would we get in trouble? He assured me: No, this was actually a beta for the next console. He got the disk from his brother, who works at Nintendo, you see. A lie, but I was a kid, I believed it.

It's the summer of 2004(?) and my dad comes home from work with something crazy: A disk with every old Nintendo game on it! That's right: You could play the NES and the SNES on it! It had hundreds of games! That blew my mind, I had never heard of emulators and they were pretty new.

I have a fun "my uncle works at Nintendo" story where - I was the kid whose "uncle worked at Nintendo", - I was not lying intentionally, I truly believed it, - My prediction for the "GameCube 2" came true

~2010, VG fan music would have slideshows of fanart and they just kind of looped through all of these, so I saw a lot of these . This one is newer, PhazonZim's physically-accurate Samus suit for AM2R (which maybe inspired Prime 4's suit?)

INCREDIBLY SICK new Varia suit design. This is distinct to what we saw before. Jack-o-Lantern chest lights, huge cannon, the four barrels are replaced with pink (Metroid power?) blocks, leg plates are gone; this is a wholly different suit.
