It's the last day of August, and this month, we wish to express gratitude to every community member who contributed in any way over the years to Data Carpentry's recently retired curricula. 🌟 Check out more news in our August newsletter and subscribe: us14.campaign-archive.com?u=46d7513c79...
Screenshot of the "Gratitude of the Month" section from Carpentries Clippings newsletter. It reads as follows: This month we express our gratitude to every community member who contributed to Data Carpentry's Geospatial Data and Astronomical Data Science curricula over the past years. Having made the difficult decision to retire those curricula, we give our thanks to lesson developers, Maintainers, and Curriculum Advisors, past and present, who contributed to these lessons. We also thank every Instructor who has taught these workshops in the past, as well as the workshop hosts and helpers who made those events happen. The curricula leave a proud legacy of helping many learners around the world to develop vital skills for their research. This has been a busy of engagement for members of The Carpentries Core Team! Our Exec. Director is at #csvconf presenting on our collaboration with GREI to equip researchers & librarians with data/software management skills, supporting high-quality, shareable deposits for the biomedical community.
Abstract of Executive Director's presentation at the conference. It reads:

In this talk we share the outcomes of a collaboration between The Carpentries and the Generalist Repository Ecosystem Initiative (GREI), an NIH-led effort to enhance data-sharing practices across disciplines. Generalist repositories play a vital role in making research outputs more discoverable and reusable, but researchers need the right skills to maximize their potential. Through this partnership, we aimed to align The Carpentries’ training programs with GREI’s mission by integrating best practices in data management, refining educational resources, and fostering a culture of open science. Our collaboration includes workshops, curriculum development, and community engagement to support researchers in navigating generalist repositories effectively. Join us to explore how this initiative can empower communities, enhance data workflows, and advance open, FAIR-aligned research practices.Abstract of Executive Director's presentation at the conference. The text reads: "This month we express our gratitude to Aman Goel, Research Software Engineer (RSE) at the University of Manchester, for leading the organisation of a Training Community Day to follow RSECon25 in September! We expect this conference satellite event to bring together many members of the Carpentries community in the UK and beyond. Aman worked tirelessly to get everything scheduled, handled almost all the logistics, and obtained multiple sponsorships for the event. Thank you, Aman, for your contributions to The Carpentries community!" Training Community Day is hyperlinked to: https://lu.ma/mm03rimf.
