As a freelancer this should be terrifying, but my bank account is healthy and I'm going to take at least a month to focus entirely on developing my art practice and digital skills. The problem is - if you take off the guardrails of deadlines and pointy purpose I tend to go .. well, off the rails.

So I find myself at somewhat of a crossroads. I’ve just wrapped some client work, a few recent art opportunities didn’t quite pan out as expected, so I’m now looking down the barrel of ... nothing to do.

Here's one I made earlier ... I'll be moving into Mid Street Lab gallery in Kemptown Brighton for a month next week to make NEW scrollytelling, interactive and projected work in a studio area. But alongside that will be an exhibition space where my existing work will be on display #brightonartist

I'm never going to be ready ... Perfection being the enemy to getting s*** done ... and all that Ok - so I have a 4 week residency coming up in Brighton (I may have mentioned it! haha) and I'm having to do some brain-management.

My art does not begin on a screen, it begins in the page of a Moleskine ... all smudged ink water brushes, smeary greasy and random doodles. I'm now more transparent about showing these alongside the finished interactive digital work - it adds context, people understand where it's come from.

Oil painters refusing to enter a room full of monitors, people freaked out by dead CCTV cameras, passers-by assuming "it's just AI". In a few weeks I'll be holed up in Mid Street Lab gallery in Kemptown surrounded by screens, tablets, cables and projectors + as well as sketchbooks, ink and paint.

Why can't we all just get along? I've been showing my digital work in group shows on and off for over a year now... and I've noticed something. Some people really hate technology.

But it's just hit me. I'll be entirely alone in a space for four weeks with no brief, no client work, no deadlines, and no direction. How the hell will I get anything done? My ADHD is gonna flip outl and there's a strong chance I'll fall headlong down some rabbit hole or other. #adhdartist
