Okay…Where? I’m not against this, just not sure here they would go at the moment. KC owns the Red Lion property. Also, what about everyone in South KC region who live in rural or suburban neighborhoods who would like to utilize BRT? The garage helps those of us who don’t live near transit.

Im so glad you asked! My DREAM woulda been to have Tukwila’s light rail in Renton & give them BRT. Have it be Auburn, Kent, Renton, Skyway, Seattle etc…Now? I’d take light rail extension to Bellevue & follow the lake line. Hell, I’d take any light rail station in Renton. We’ve not even had a study.

It’s a very singular and seattle view of you. I’m down to abolish cars one day & we need the infrastructure in place first to ween people off the built in reliance so the most vulnerable/rural suffer. Hence parking garages in cities that don’t have a lot of transit. It’s a step by step process 4 all

Yes. I think that is part of the structural problems: Renton is categorized as east side with sound transit but we are part of the south end. Our rep should be Fain on ST as it in on KCC.

Then maybe sound transit should adopt a new equity lens cause Renton is sick of being told to wait their turn & get nothing. I don’t care about Ballard, issaquah, or Kirkland extensions cause I’ve seen us pay into a regional system for 27 yrs & still have poor public transit. This helps South KC.

That wasn’t the discussion at Sound Transit. It was take away our BRT garage and give us nothing in return. I would love to a have a light rail station in Renton and would trade more frequent, consistent, reliable transit for a parking garage any day. But we get nothing cause Claudia is our KC rep.

If I could make that guarantee I would but that’s above my pay grade and position. I’m all for free public parking near transit. I believe it helps encourage people to leave their cars and take public transit.

For those who don’t have a transit station in their front yards, those with families, and/or cities that have been made car reliant, in order to get people to leave their cars they need to be able to leave them somewhere.

Officials like me? I get it but I’m part of a single car household that lives in Renton and works in Seattle and relies on public transit. I want all the transit. I hate driving. HATE IT. But alas, we often need to rely on our car to get around cause public transit here is sorely lacking.

That’s not true. At all. Sound transit has left the South end car reliant. If you want people outta their cars, provide free public parking near transit hubs. I use it and know plenty who do. That’s why our park and ride is filled up almost every work day.

I would LOVE light rail in Renton. But what we got as the 4th largest city in KC is BRT… and free public parking is needed to get people out of their cars and into public transit.

I love that With how things have landed and been set up regionally, free public parking is about getting people off the road and into public transit. This will be a regional hub with the investments we have been given (and had to beg to keep). I’m just thankful we are finally getting our BRT.

Renton has paid taxes for three decades w/o the prospect of light rail, was on the verge of losing its bus-station garage. However, a late proposal would allocate $100 million toward that project. Let’s hope the Sound Transit board doesn’t leave the Southend behind again. #SoundTransit #Renton
