People are claiming that Elon Musk messed with Starlink in Ukraine because Trump asked him. I think a more likely reason is that Ukraine damaging Russian data centers embarrassed Elon by showing how many of his Twitter followers are nonexistent and how much traffic on Twitter is driven by bots.

A must see! This is catchy! Pennsylvania has recorded 1000 measles cases+deaths RFK Jr spreads misinformation on vaccines. This is a pivotal time in our country. If our votes didn’t matter, they wouldn’t work so hard to intimidate us. “Time for the Midterms” youtu.be/ayWiE_gL9mU #pinks

I had the same thought. What an incredibly dark time it is for us to have such an awful thought and it be fully plausible.

I live in SoCal relatively close to both cities. I know many good, hardworking people with families. And I know they’re going to vote red anyway. 😢 I’m just devastated.

I received my health insurance update for next year, and my policy is changing and cost is going up 53.5% primarily because I’m turning 30. 😭 and I already get the cheapest option available to me. Can we PLEASE implement universal healthcare now??

Thank you for sharing and for being upfront about the AI assistance. I try to avoid AI in books, but from a purely conversational standpoint, can I ask how you define AI assistance for this one? Did it generate any content, did you use it for editing, etc? I’m curious about rising trends of AI use.

A recent survey found that 92% of U.S. adults have delayed or avoided medical care due to high costs. Meanwhile, a new study from Yale estimates that Medicare for All would save over 114,000 lives and $1 trillion a year. If this country was truly “pro-life,” we would have universal healthcare.

Huge corporations like Amazon, Walmart, and Uber are among the top employers of SNAP and Medicaid recipients. Meanwhile, their CEOs are raking in multi-million dollar pay packages. How is this not a bigger scandal?

Great article! I’ve been contacted by *many* scammers since first asking for beta readers a couple months ago 😭

Carmen Epona Lake 📚 @carmeneponalake.bsky.social · 01/09/2026

I like volunteer beta readers for being passionate about the genre and giving a general idea of how a reader will perceive the work. Of course, it’s not as good as a proper edit, but it can provide a lot of insight!

Carmen Epona Lake 📚 @carmeneponalake.bsky.social · 01/09/2026

Feel free to DM me a quick description and word count! If I can be of help, I’ll gladly beta read :)

Carmen Epona Lake 📚 @carmeneponalake.bsky.social · 01/09/2026

Also when you’re just starting out as a beta reader, it’s just best to ask the author what they’re wanting feedback on! Usually it’s just first impressions, if you notice plot holes, etc.

110

Carmen Epona Lake 📚 @carmeneponalake.bsky.social · 01/09/2026

Personally I’ve found books to beta read and beta readers for my books primarily through Reddit. I also will post when I’m in need of one. If you like specific genres, hang around those communities! My first time beta reading was through one of the horse subreddits for a book about a horse race.

110

Carmen Epona Lake 📚 @carmeneponalake.bsky.social · 01/09/2026

That is very fair and 100% justified. But the average beta reader is usually an avid reader interested in a free read or a fellow author seeking a critique swap. And now there’s too many who claim professionalism but throw the manuscript into an AI system.

100

Carmen Epona Lake 📚 @carmeneponalake.bsky.social · 01/09/2026

I’ve learned to assume this with every new conversation, and unfortunately, it’s true more often than not. I’ve started putting AI detecting tests into my first couple chapters before sending them to potential readers.

110

Carmen Epona Lake 📚 @carmeneponalake.bsky.social · 31/08/2026

I’ll beta read pretty much anything that sounds interesting to me! I don’t stick to any particular genre. But I’m a bit slow to read so I’m not great for a quick turnaround. 😅 We definitely learn a lot from each other! I’ve loved beta reading since long before I attempted to write novels.

110

Carmen Epona Lake 📚 @carmeneponalake.bsky.social · 31/08/2026

This might be controversial, but I’m continually shocked by how many beta readers expect $$$, and they can often be aggressive in my DMs. I’ve been beta reading since high school and I’ve NEVER asked for money. I do it because I love it and it supports the author community. #author #booksky #writing
