Just a few versions behind. Nothing major…

Yay! I still get to call Aurora the fastest mixed-precision system for a while! 🥰💕

Unpacked some new transceivers this afternoon. That’s 6.4Tbps one-handed!

Four clear plastic cases containing four silver metal optical network transceivers with green pull-tab handles in each plastic case, totaling 16 transceivers. These are QSFP56-DD transceivers for 400Gbps Ethernet.

Visualization of why I won’t be at SC24 (or many other conferences across a majority of states in the country), as rendered by erininthemorning.com - I expect the “light blue-grey” states will turn blood red when newly elected officials are sworn in come January as well. 15 states left for us.

Felt cute so I posed with the fastest mixed-precision computer on the planet 💕

Group photo of some of us from the Aurora team, along with members of the Board of Governors and Laboratory Director Paul Kearns

A diverse group of individuals stand together behind a banner that reads “James B Porter Jr Team Award for Outstanding Safety Performance”. Carissa is holding a matching engraved plaque with the same information as the banner. The plaque and banner also list the full names of all members of the team who were honored together today.

I silly-promised work I would dress “appropriately sciencey” for today’s awards ceremony. I forgot I had bought this blouse before the pandemic, but once I found it in the closet, I knew what had to be done. #BoldlyGo

Today, I was honored to receive the Board of Governors Award for Outstanding Safety Performance on behalf of the Aurora Supercomputer Install Team here at Argonne National Laboratory. Together, our team installed 300 tons of equipment and 300 miles of cabling with zero injuries. 💕

Also joining the thread from 1998. Unfortunately, the majority of stuff from back then is long since lost or destroyed, but I do have one surviving blurry photo of my desk from the same time!

I only have a few pieces, but it was absolutely positively a requirement that I stop at NOTHING to acquire this piece in particular. 😉

New seasonal icon time! Swapping out the spring/summer flowers for the falling leaves and a PSL thanks to VaporGrowl @ FA. Now if only it wasn't 88F/31C outside today, I might actually be able to enjoy a hot latte...

I’m not really paying much attention to social media, but glancing back on today’s timeline, it seems someone’s making a stink about “being a fed”? Pictured: actual fed (contractor) in actual federal building doing actual federal work on federal user facility’s biggest computer in the world:

A different photo of the same woman in the same office, wearing more makeup, and showing lots of plush toy foxes on display in the office.

I need to get back there! EBR-1 was closed for the season when I was at INL for work, so I haven’t made it inside yet. I‘ve touched X-10 down at ORNL though.
