Really enjoyed @digitaldang.bsky.social’s talk on loudspeakers in the Vietnamese context. The especially evocative ‘fish sauce and exhaust’ phrase encapsulating the urban streetscape was a deliciously poetic highlight 💚 📢 #signalsandnoises #AusSTS2025

The new #Catalyst issues has a special section on Knowing Borders: Materialidades, Ecologías, Estéticas. It was an honour to work with a beautifully tense photograph by Nirvana Paz, featuring a mural in a home shelter for Migrants in Mexico, for the cover catalystjournal.org/index.php/ca...

Yep, glowing walls and defunct devices will be looking on at #AusSTS2025. Day 1 is at the National Communication Museum, and we're going to use the space & stuff to think with. Infrastructures, enfolded time & space, translation, listening, silencing, senses. Get in it aussts.org/aussts-2025-...

Museum gallery with green lights and a wall of defunct objects, 3 people stand in frame.

Museum installation of old phone infrastructure/ wires and boxes.

Did I mention the superb photo essays? Who wouldn't want this in their Saturday ritual? NB: A note to folks who are suspicious of Whatsapp delivery -it's all above board. Whatsapp will likely warn you that the pdf may contain harmful things. Don't stress. It's all good. or rather, very very good.

2.) Strongly recommend @thecontinent.org - a smart, thoughtful & aesthetically extremely fine newspaper delivered in the delightful format of a pdf via Whatsapp. African & global news. Stories, a (humbling) quiz. Diverse coverage, sincere retractions, sharp jokes www.thecontinent.org

Two things to spruik on this weird-weather Sunday. First, 'Contested Ecologie's, an edited volume by Lesley Green (2013). #STSers should know that certain publication/ library systems bury it. It's open access, (this link seems broken but msg me for HSRC pdf) hsrcpress.ac.za/product/cont...

Jane Calvert is asking some home questions - do STS scholars risk getting too close to their fields ('the domestication of critique') and thus excluding more radical voices (such as those from civil society) by our presence and proximity? www.youtube.com/watch?v=46_G... #SSNbooktalk

The CFP is live, STS'ers. Deadline 14 March. Our website has a bunch of ideas for how to riff off this theme, and we're really keen to see lots of Making and Doing- mini installations, posters, sounds bytes and playful provocations. aussts.org/aussts-2025-... #AusSTS2025 #signalsandnoises
