Think Galactic Racer feels fantastic. Super fast, dangerous arcade racing that we don't get too often anymore. Really into the roguelike structure of the campaign, too, even if its long runs don't give me that moreish "one more run" I often seek in similar designs. Overall, pretty great, though.

Absolutely loved Control Resonant. Some of Remedy’s most inventive world design to date which, just when you think you've seen it all, never fails to throw something new your way. Fantastic stuff that deserves to be given your full attention even in a sea of incredible games right now.

I like this version of Logan, but good character work can only take Wolverine so far. Initially satisfying combat wears thin over time, and there isn't a lot outside of it worth shouting about either. It's okay, but steps below Insomniac's Spider-Man series. My review: www.ign.com/articles/mar...

Marvel’s Wolverine is Okay, But Stands in the Shadow of Insomniac’s Spider-Man Series — IGN Review
Marvel's Wolverine's slick and satisfying combat wears thin well before its conclusion, so much so that even its strong character work can't quite save it from being anything more than okay.

Similarly, you wouldn't give as much weight to story in something like Mega Man where it isn't a primary concern, but action needs to remain strong. Horses for courses and all that. No right answer but that's the beauty of criticism I think!

Simon Cardy @cardy.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
I think it partly depends on the genre and aims of a game, to be honest. You'd maybe forgive a narrative-lead linear game's action becoming a bit stale if it delivers a strong story and end up at a 7.

Surprisingly, it's ended up being my favourite of the big three Capcom games this year (I'd give them all 7-8s out of 10). If you're someone completely new to the series, don't let that put you off, either. That's exactly the position I was in!

Really enjoyed Onimusha: Way of the Sword. Excellent combat that is at its best during boss battles - even if they make you fight the same ones several times during its slightly bloated 20 hours. Above all, though, I just love how silly it is. More people calling people "plonkers" in games, please.
