Today's Persons Day in Canada, when the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council ruled the word "persons" in the BNA Act included women.* *not all women--First Nations and those of Asian/Indian descent would wait decades--but it was a start. www.youtube.com/watch?v=njAO...

Local German food is (from what I've been told) not really like German-German food. The schnitzel is...not great, here. But you can't tell locals that. There was one place who made it really well, but the owners sold and the new ones are using a fryolator, not a fry pan :(

I'm in one of Canada's largest German cities -- in fact we used to host Canada's largest Oktoberfest (11 days, people travelled from all over Canada and world to attend). Must try to find them in our German and European bakeries -- thanks!

My latest food column for CBC Radio, Kitchener. This time, since cold and flu season is early, I chatted with three local sous-chefs about the comfort foods they turn to when they're not well. On the list: burgers, colcannon, barszcz, & Lao-style congee! #Food #Canada www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

So, a taste (no pun) of my work. Last week's column was about emerging sweet flavours of autumn here: caramel, toffee, brown sugary treats. Interviewed two local pastry chefs, and one gave me her sticky toffee pudding recipe. #Canada #Food #Desserts #Sweets #Recipe www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Thank you! So far, so good! Even though I don't understand some of the posts (language--can't figure out if there's a translate toggle, like on Bluesky), I am enjoying the breadth of topics, from personal to regional, to national. And so far, people have been lovely :)

Love pastele de nata. Back in the 1970s, the town next to us (Cambridge, ON) had the 20% of the province's Portuguese population, so we had festivals and restaurants. My neighbours were also Portuguese, so I got to have lots of delicious food (incl. grilled sardines).
