All my Anglican friends have been doing it for ages but I don't see it around town very much in Toronto.

Did you know that @phokion.bsky.social and I have been doing a podcast on YouTube? Probably not cause I have barely told anyone. Anyway if you enjoy nerds info dumping about our many special interests, ( lots of history but we cover a lot) this podcast might just be for you! youtu.be/kesLjfX_5Sk?...

@annieknk.bsky.social just impatiently waiting for the next episode of truly, tradly, deeply to come out because it's the only thing getting me through my week these days. Fascinating journalism.

I chose to make a bear medallion and I definitely have no regrets about that.

I always let some goldenrod do its thing in my yard because it's great for the autumn pollinators. And it is NOT rag weed.

Not me crying in the car the other day listening to an account of many of the Luddites being hanged. Definitely recommend blood in the machine but prepare to have your heart broken. #history #labour #luddites

It's so cool that pixel is throttling my battery "because they were overheating" and isn't producing new ones for the 6. Now I will have to get a new phone when a new battery would have been fine. But of course, this is what they want. Planned obsolescence is cool and good. What fun we're having

On the days when I work at home I always end the day super fucking upset that I did not finish all the things. It's literally impossible to finish all the things but I still am mad that I haven't.

We cleaned up nice for my partner's sister's wedding ( I think ) and had an amazing time

I also think it's very likely that we are grouping a lot of people together as autistic in ways that maybe aren't especially helpful in terms of support needs and trait expression. Now if they'd just spend more time looking at how this intersects with ADHD I feel like we'd be on the right track.

Aurora @captainswordface.bsky.social · 15/07/2025

So just read this article about an autism genetic study and while I'm very happy this research is being done it leads in a direction I've been suspecting for a while now, which is that we have almost no understanding of what autism is. www.scientificamerican.com/article/four...

scientificamerican.com

There Are at Least Four Types of Autism, Researchers Find

Autism has at least four subtypes, an analysis of more than 5,000 children’s genes, traits and developmental trajectories has shown

Yah I use tragacanth to seal the edges but I only do edge burnishing seriously for my own stuff because the labour time is otherwise unaffordable

Happy Canada Day! It's not perfect but I'm still glad to be a Canadian. Here's me and @jedcawthorne fighting at Deed of Alms a few years ago. You can come out and watch us at 11 AM , Bickford park, on Sunday July 6th and donate to help support refugees and unhoused! #canadian #medieval #knight

Medieval and bronze age spearrings. I wear my medieval pair all the time but I have to say I quite like both. Each one is based on an extant spearhead from the time period. You can see them in person a Toronto outdoor art fair. July 11/13 I'll be at booth 74 in zone A

Every year since 2017 we have come together for friendly medieval longsword sparring. This year we will be supporting Ukrainian refugees who are trying to make new lives in Canada and to support those who are struggling without housing. If you can please donate to support our efforts! Link in bio

My cat Iris passed away in 2023 and we buried her in the garden. In the spring I planted irises around where she was. This is how they are doing. It's a wonderful testament to her memory each spring.

Cleaning the magical amount of mud out of my boots and the hem of a wool gown. The gown was still turning the water brown after three washes

That terrible moment when you're excited to go sit in the garden with the excellent novel by @phokion.bsky.social you've been reading, and then you remember that you already finished it 😭

Aurora @captainswordface.bsky.social · 06/06/2025

One of our most prized possessions is our long handled medieval repro fry pan. Much of our cooking couldn't be as tasty without it.

I want a refund on this whole week.

The handles often don't get that hot, but we sometimes use some wool as a pot holder or an s hook if the handle has heated up a lot.

Aurora @captainswordface.bsky.social · 04/06/2025

It was a miracle that it worked. We stacked flat rocks on the mud on one side and then the water would drain into the pit and we'd bail it with a bucket periodically. I think we were draining the whole field. Lol kind of a miracle of engineering tho

010

Aurora @captainswordface.bsky.social · 04/06/2025

It was very much not glamourous. The sounds when we walked around alone were so tragically squelchy

We have many years of practice!

They also used those but they used almond a lot.

Aurora @captainswordface.bsky.social · 04/06/2025

I have never yet caught in fire! But give me time. Lol. I have had small ember holes burned into gown skirts and I once splashed hot oil on my forehead which was not fun at all.

010

Aurora @captainswordface.bsky.social · 04/06/2025

Lol yah the firepit bailing area 🤣
