You can tell it's been a day when I'm watching Marco Pierre White to see how he gives a Johns Hopkins *clinic* on a bolognaise and he stares like resurrected Lazarus through your heart and tells you the three things that make a good cook and you're sobbing on the floor. youtu.be/vcqXRAi9vrs?...

I can take my kid's rediscovery of Imagine Dragons, I can bear the hours in the car. But the way the singer says "it's a revolution, I suppose!" makes me groan out loud and my eyes roll so hard I swerve into the other lane and my lane corrector beeps and the music cuts out

Oh oh this is SUCH an interesting point!! I was pulling my hair out teaching Mottanai this weekend, but we played a big 600 ft high Game Makers with no trouble at all. My favorite games all come in a tiny box: all the Paxs and Innovation and the like, but they take me days to understand.

Oh god this crushed me, how I love Sam Neill. I don't know how he escaped ever being in a Peter Jackson movie but he did and I'm grateful for that. Him in Until the End of the World is the most nuanced, painful, and secret treatise on being a husband I've ever seen.

I know airlines are nowhere NEAR the top when it comes to bloat and corruption and caring only for shareholders, but god it is so *on display* when you're on a plane. And you're stuck there. Thinking about it.

It was either this Herblock or a Curb Your Enthusiasm sheet sex joke, so I opted to go the classier option. And also this guy needs three fewer phones.

Ohhhhhhhh NINOTCHKA. I've watched the "people showing up to the room" no dialogue scene dozens of times when I've got the blue devils. That scene restores my faith in humanity.

And when he rasped that, we both realized that we were trying to end a relationship next to Mel Brooks. I blame and thank him for the two years that followed. Never saw that place again in decades of wandering. Don't even have the heart to see if it was real.

He was so buoyant, so explosive, we decided we'd never be able to break up by him, and that we were being utter fools to think we'd get served a meal at that place, even more fool to think we'd get around to actually breaking up until two years later. And as we left he shouted "have a better day!"

Nick Capodice @capodice.bsky.social · 29/06/2026
We tried to talk about whether we should break up, but a man came in and sat RIGHT next to us. He grabbed his menu, shouted "I don't need THIS, Henry!" and told the waiter he wanted his usual. He said the New York tap water was the finest in the world.

And it ONLY served omelets. The fanciest omelets you've ever seen. I had about eighty dollars in my bank account, and there was no way we were gettin' outta there on THAT. So we ordered a water and a small salad each. They never came.

her skin looked like bone, she was covered in sweat, sobbing. She needed to eat before we had any kind of a talk, and we had no idea where to go, so we ducked into what seemed a passable eatery. There was NOBODY in there, it was tiled and beautiful and we instantly knew it was too fancy

She herself had made a rough passage to work, but in going between the subway cars to escape a bad smell, she got her hand slammed in the cross-car door. She was a wisp of a thing, and she fainted. She said she had to see me, so I ran down and sprinted to 59th street to help her get up the stairs

The next day as I dragged my bruised, hungover corpse into work (that week I was working with a colorectal surgeon who became incensed when I said the wrong doctor's name when I covered phones for lunch) my (now) ex called me.

After a night of shouting at each other, my poor roommate surging into the kitchen to tell us to shut the hell up so he could sleep, we had a door-slamming breakup. (I promise this is a story full of joy, it's in there somewhere!)

I, like so many of us, want to tell the story about the man on this day. I had just moved to NYC, watched the towers fall, and got into a hilarious and maybe just a little unhealthy relationship. I was VERY much in over my head, she's truly lovely, but good god were we a disaster.

I rewatched Desk Set this week, and what got through this time is that every single scene is designed to make you appreciate the imperfect, inefficient, rebellious, loud, clumsy, unpredictable creatures we all are that wham on stolen pianos and get things wrong and say I love you too often.

I'm really glad you said this, ever since I saw The Third Man I wondered "who is that actor who is acting 30 years ahead of his time?" I always tie him to Arthur Kennedy in Elmer Gantry. Two men who didn't seem to care that a camera happened to be in the room.

A long time ago I started to learn how to cook Sichuan food. And I always yearned to make a forever pickle crock but I never got my act together. But I just decided to try, and lo and behold I ate some beans and mustard greens out of this and hoo boy. I understand something that was scary to me.

In 2002 I used to work in an office in a hospital, and I would kill time by editing Lockhorns cartoons. Later I would sleep in the office by wedging a pencil with a fat eraser into the keyboard, resting my head on the rubber.
Leroy, the no good husband in Reiner's neverending syndicate "The Lockhorns," a comic strip about a couple that hates each other with ever fiber of their being, is walking out smugly with a beer. Loretta, his exhausted, disillusioned wife is talking to a woman in fuschia pants and a black top. Loretta seems sad. But she always seems sad. The woman listens with a bored expression.

Here, Loretta is explaining her lack of interest in life. She is exhausted, uncertain why she must continue this humdrum existence. Leroy, blissfully, bops to the next room, about to open his third beer of the day.

The whole thing. The hurried whisper, him not giving up, the mic being cut off, the swell of booing, hopeful people listening to the radio in silence, the throwing of vegetables, and then the utter hush as the rail runs in. Gonna run that a few times!
