It is possible the 8:29 bus in your sample was recorded as OTP, but assuming schedule is clock face quarterly, everything else wouldn't meet the metrics.

Yes, they're different metrics. OTP within 5 minutes. Delivered within 20 minutes. So indeed if >5 minutes, seen in the punctual metric. Regularity metric, used was +40% of headway, so 15 minutes ≈ 21 minute gaps.

In fact, quite the opposite.

They showed at last meeting that the trips were missed mostly in PM peak, off peak and weekends. But mostly delivered in AM peak.

Mostly my experience on this has been at Lyon Station and in Metro Vancouver on Richmond branch and downtown tunnels .. even knowing how it's run when dropped to single tracking, yes have gone down to one platform to realize to go to the other platform.

Indeed sometimes 3 stations vs 8 stations.

In Ottawa, the default is single tracking a problem segment, also done in Vancouver. TTC upgraded their system to allow the same, but prefers buses because of segment length.

The irony is, the transit plan in 2009 allowed this. But because of the fare operating requirements in the service policy, after city eliminated express fares.. service wait time quality made us have dissatisfaction since 2017.

1) Service Policy prevents. Council and routes continue to fail to address that PM peak need is not a percentage mirror of AM peak, hearing only one fifth of want/need. 2) Service Policy prevents; Council consistently disagrees. 3) Council prevents, because of Council vote base thinking otherwise.

It's wait time for late buses, rather than transfers.

canophone @canophone.bsky.social · 12/10/2026
Buses aren't travelling as far in traffic to start their next trip late, so becomes more predictable.

If talking issue ≈ actual key issue.. but actually results show it's just calling something a key issue rather than being an actual key issue

It's a key talking point, but this election isn't a real vote issue. Regardless of poll indicators.

There is no boondoggle. The budget choices made sure of it.

Meant deliberate reduced service quality because of the service policy from 2005

At that point the city still had a bus route planner in staff very passionate about the job.

Bus satisfaction declined years before 2019. Didn't start in 2019. The decline was just tolerated, but it has been there since 2003. It became significant in 2017.

Disagree with claim of most.. but some, yes. Mostly it's just the wait time metric. Mostly that's because of current network and frequency. But also the insistence to run PM peak as a percent of AM peak, less frequent trips instead of routing that reduces wait time, when most struggling with assets.

It is that it increases capacity required for quite literally only two stops if using as the primary cross border rail link. Doable, but not justified for just two stops.

DC isn't close, and it's a lot more than simply transit as to why it isn't. The most close city to Ottawa scale is Luxembourg. US apparently, it's actually Austin Texas and Jacksonville Florida, while approaching Columbus Ohio and Indianapolis Indiana.

When adding a bypass like such, it's deciding a tolerance factor, knowing that these clusters would occur
000 0
canophone @canophone.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Not the only factor... but sprawling density that requires suburban political appeasement vs more density that allows more simplified justification to the tax base.

Density is an underlying reason that allows and an issue that doesn't.

So the actual experience view is that 5 minutes after a scheduled 15 minute service makes 20 minutes as tolerable as a gap standard. But the city turned it into if a bus itself is 20 minutes late that it's as though the trip isn't delivered.
000 0
canophone @canophone.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
City also has a within 5 minutes stat, but also always buries that stat. As though it isn't a measure of reliability.
000 0
canophone @canophone.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
City's definition of "reliability" now is 99.5% of trips delivered within 20 minutes of scheduled time.
210 0
canophone @canophone.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
So, even the answer officials have doesn't address this... they hear, "we want express routes" but then fail to consider that in PM, it's frequency that is actually what is wanted rather than the AM direct demand.
010 0
canophone @canophone.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
Yeah, it’s pretty interesting how much actual travel time variability is ignored when the wait time is low, even if the actual journey is a longer trip time. But how often it suddenly is the discussion when the wait time is longer, even if the actual journey time is quicker.

canophone @canophone.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
Brw, it's the same reason ppl claim 95 was more reliable than it actually was.
110 0
canophone @canophone.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
It's because riders see wait time as the highest measure of dependability.. if a late bus means a shorter wait, riders perceive that as a better trip than meeting any performance measures
110 0
canophone @canophone.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
Actually, for some riders, a late bus is more on time than an on schedule bus. Within particular limits.
