I hope ai burns to the ground. I hope

081

Now? I just scroll in pissed off silence and wonder what the point of being on here is if there's no one left to share my art with or reasons for doing it.

I remember looking forward to talking art with other artists. I remember getting excited about doing cool art and sharing it.

Ai has killed me. I dont share art. I dont look for work. And my reasons for doing art have dwindled to a selfish "I do this for ME" reason.

Social media has silenced me. I dont talk to people anymore, I talk at them and sometimes spout soliloquies like I think I have something to say. Like this one.

So WHY CAN’t WE? I’d like some new teeth please. And new cartilage behind my patellae, while we’re at it. Whoever the creator* was, they were a bit sloppy. *Spoiler: there wasn’t one. Our bodies were assembled piecemeal over millions of years by a process (Natural Selection).

Occured to me that I can collect all of these in a single post, on account of the carousel. Anyway, some postcards from elsewhere:

These were three individual pieces I did in 2021. Unplanned, they became something of an accidental sequence. They then prompted me to make the piece in the quoted post, of the pumpkin dance, by way of a conclusion. Ink on Fabriano Medioevalis, each 95 × 64 mm.

Three small silhouette drawings in black ink. The first is of a sitting fox, looking back over its shoulder at a bird on the branch of a little bare shrub. The second has a playful-looking fox, half-crouched, tail in the air, looking at a bird which has just taken off from a branch. The third shows a fox, surprised, its head drawn slightly back, as it seems to have come upon a pumpkin on the ground, surrounded by its vines. It has a face like a carved jack-o'-lantern.

No. We all live in this world. Rich people too. So we build a society where EVERYONE is accountable. Stop with this idea that money makes you powerful. Or that it's acceptable to ostracise people for arbitrary reasons. Thats all still tribalism.

I had to put one of those anti ai things on my own website and it made me inordinately fucking angry.

We can live in hope. Until then, I'm putting my trust in experts saying the ai bubble will burst so these slop generators will die and we can all go back to bitching about normal stuff again xx

Yep. I'm sure it feels like they're doing something profound but until they've made something with their own heart, mind and hands, they're just pushing words around in a computer art game.

I love the doing of my art. I don't love the end result because I see everything I could have done better. So it's a feeling of cool, it's done now on to the next next. The next one will be better, I promise... Thats the secret ai shaggers miss. The compulsion to do and keep doing.

The argument against AI should always start with the THEFT of creative labor the technology was built on. The intent was CRIMINAL. CEOs should be facing charges, not class action lawsuits. The devastation these companies continue to inflict on creative communities demands accountability.

A Conjuring Caliph. Pencil on Stillman & Birn Gamma series sketchbook paper, 135 × 215 mm (2018). Inspired by Shakespeare's Prospero and the 1,001 Nights, this was one of those sketches I meant to take further and never did. Still, it's decent enough to relinquish to a hopefully happy collector. 🥲

Pencil sketch of a caliph with a serious expression, in 16th century Persian-inspired clothing, carrying a staff of sinuously knotted wood, standing in what appears to be a workshop, surrounded by an ornate bookstand and alchemical instruments. In the foreground, smoke issues in vertical plumes out of a pot on a little earthenware stove.

He was described as an unremarkable king which to me means he was good at his job - didn't get his people killed, didn't chase conquest and battle for the fame of it etc. And yes I know I'm playing fast and loose with accuracy but it's fiction so the experts can bite me 😏

They're infuriating. Take their money off them, put them in council houses and pay them benefit money and let them see how the real world looks from there.
