One of the most-visited waterways museums in the UK, located in central London. On two floors we tell the story of London's canals, their people, arts and crafts, boats, horses and engineering. We offer a programme of regular boat trips from the museum.

🎭 Carlo Gatti was known as London’s ‘Ice King’, but ice was only part of his family’s story. The Gattis were also involved in London music halls. On Saturday 21 November, spend an evening of live variety entertainment inside the former ice warehouse. (1/2)

...The answer is: In 1874, a barge carrying gunpowder exploded beneath the bridge. The bridge was destroyed, but some iron columns survived. During the rebuild, they were reused with their tow-rope grooves facing away from the ropes.

🚧 The lift from our mezzanine to the first floor is currently out of order. We anticipate normal service from Tuesday, 22 September. The lift from our ground floor to the mezzanine continues to work, and there is no impact on access to our wharf for boat trips.

Excited to share that we've acquired the Northwich 🎉 Built in 1898 in Birmingham for Fellows Morton & Clayton, she is one of the oldest boats in the canal system. She worked the first 60 years of her life, then spent the next 60 in the National Waterways Museum collection...

Our tug, Bantam IV, built in 1949-1950, is looking shiny and new after a repaint. Our thanks to specialist painter Will for his work. Maintaining our collection is vitally important to the museum, and when the collection item floats, it's always an interesting piece of work!

Well done to everyone who got it right! 👏🏼 It was indeed Lord's Cricket Ground, Thomas Lord was paid £4,000 in compensation to move his ground to its current home, using soil from the Maida Hill Tunnel to build his legendary pitch

It’s #MysteryMonday! 🔎 Today we are celebrating the anniversary of the opening of the first section of the Regent's Canal on 12 August 1816! But did you know that this canal's construction actually forced a legendary London sports venue to pack up and move? (1/2)
