Foreign direct investment is transitioning, away from greenfield and towards mergers and acquisitions (M&A). M&A isn’t always bad, but can be an extractive tool of foreign investors to buy up Canadian companies to capture valuable IP or eliminate an up-and-coming competitor.

Really interesting chart from my colleagues at the @canadianshieldinstitute.ca. Canada has some of the highest rates of foreign investment in the world. We treat foreign direct investment like it's good for the economy. But if it's so good, how come Canada isn't doing 3x better than Germany?
