I recently ran a support group for autistics who find themselves in autistic burnout. I do these about every other week and have been doing so for the past 5 years like clockwork. I always share my experience with burnout. How it changed fundamentally. How my life looks totally different.

Test pour un Paris-Marseille A-R : - 50€ en avion - 150€ en train - l'avion émet 50x plus d'émissions de CO2 que le train. Les transports, c'est 32% des émissions en France. Tant que voyager en avion sera beaucoup moins cher que le train, ça ne changera jamais.

C’est absurde, violent et validiste. Une ligne est 100% accessible si tous ses arrêts le sont. Le réseau de bus de Paris n’est pas 100% accessible. Que dites-vous à une personne dont l’arrêt n’est pas accessible? « N’en demande pas trop, tu n’as qu’à sortir 3arrêts plus loin et revenir en arrière »?

Les 3 mecs font des signes des mains pour lui dire comment s’y prendre pour se garer, en se marrant. Je suis hors de moi. Mes gestes signifiant « non merci » et « on a pas besoin » ayant provoqué de leur côté rires et « c’est pour vous aider, nous d’ici on voit l’extérieur de votre voiture ».

En voiture, ma mère au volant, prête à amorcer un créneau pour se garer. De l’autre côté de la rue, 3 jeunes mecs l’observent les bras croisés et l’œil rieur, ayant sûrement 10 ans de conduite à leur actif contre 45 pour ma mère. Au moment de se lancer dans son créneau, pas de surprise :

I never wanted to be a disability activist. I spent the first half of my life running away from the fact that I was disabled. I, like most of you, lived with intense shame for being disabled. I didn't realize that there was another way of looking at myself and the disabled community until later.

Il y a six semaines, j’ai signalé un problème d’accessibilité dans un gymnase municipal du 18e arrondissement. Les toilettes pour personnes handicapées étaient fermées à clé et utilisées comme entrepôt, les rendant inutilisables.

It’s always “funny” to me when abled & neuronormative folx say that disabled people needing accommodations are harmful to THEM. They’ll always point to the one other disabled person who has the same “need” as them in not accommodating us as proof that our needs are irrational and unnecessary.
