It started, as all serious scientific thinking does: in a bar. I was reflecting on the nature of time, the essence of life, and our place in the Universe. (I was drunk.) this is what came out... agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.... #Geoscience #EarthScience #Geology #DeepTime

A parasite doesn't survive without its host. Ecologists have a word for relationships where one partner provides most of the resources while the other captures most of the benefit. Maybe it's time our publishing ecosystem evolved. scholarlykitchen.sspnet.org/2026/07/16/g...

Guest Post — From Parasitism to Symbiosis: Escaping Peer-Pressure and For-Profit Publishers Through Diamond Open Access - The Scholarly Kitchen
Two environmental researchers argue that open-access publishing has undergone major “environmental” shifts, triggering rapid and far-reaching evolutionary responses, not unlike natural ecocystems.

Following our latest publication with @romainvaucher.bsky.social in @sedimentologika.bsky.social , we wrote a piece arguing that scientists can, and should, reclaim control over scholarly publishing. A fairer publishing system is not a distant ideal. We scientist can already take action 💎

Very proud of this piece written with @romainvaucher.bsky.social Most research is funded with public money & written and reviewed for free by researchers : yet the results are controlled by corporations that set the rules and capture the profits. As an academic, you can help change the system!
