You are not powerless, and he is not unstoppable. Look at, and learn from, the funding freeze and how quickly he was forced to surrender.

i think an important thing for people outside the US to understand is that elon musk seized control of the government today and most americans don’t even realize it happened.

They count on you being scared to break the rules! More than anything else, they are counting on your decency and respect of procedure to paralyze you from doing the right thing lest you get called to the principal's office. You have to learn to say fuck it and DO THE RIGHT THING

Washington is full of rule-following valedictorians who were inspired by the West Wing and did Model UN and moot court and studied their heroes and who believe in using government to help people. That's nice, but you need to learn how to swing on the illiterate bullies who steal lunch money.

I honestly believe our most powerful position in a toxic time that feeds on cynicism, apathy,& despair is to genuinely care and act for a better world. Cynicism is our enemy. We should check it, incl. on the left. It’s not intellectually superior. It’s the virus they’re trying to infect us with. NO

"One of the first tools the Trump admin took down was CEJST. It sure would be frustrating to the administration's anti-EJ, anti-climate goals if someone had.....saved it.... 👀 lnkd.in/ebKs__2g%22 HUGE shoutout to the incredible, Jonathan Gilmour for preserving this tool! 👏🏾 #climate #EJ #CEJST

Trump just wants us to fall further behind China in offshore wind deployment.
A line graph depicting the cumulative installed wind energy capacity (in gigawatts) from 2000 to 2023. It shows data for various regions: China, Europe, North America, South America, Oceania, and Africa, highlighting significant capacity in China over all other regions.

prayers up for megan mcardle who was brutally owned by the AI summary of comments on her own column
Conversation summary
The comments overwhelmingly criticize the notion that context could change the perception of Elon Musk's gesture, which many interpret as a Nazi salute. Commenters argue that Musk's history of supporting far-right ideologies and parties, such as the AfD in Germany, reinforces the interpretation of the gesture as deliberate and not accidental. They express frustration with attempts to rationalize or excuse the gesture, emphasizing that it aligns with Musk's past actions and statements. The comments reflect a strong consensus that the gesture was intentional and should not be dismissed or downplayed.

OpenAI doesn't report a single number for its climate impacts - not anywhere, in any way, shape or form. It sounds kind of obvious but the fact that a company with such incredible electricity hunger isn't disclosing basic information about its energy consumption and associated emissions is v bad..

some ways to generate electricity A) use sunlight to drive photosynthesis in plants, let plants die, wait ~100 million years, dig up fossilized plants, burn plants, use heat to boil water, use steam to drive a rotating turbine, use generator to make electrons B) use sunlight to make electrons
