Good morning. US bond yields continue to spike to highs not seen since 2007. That’s the interest on US debt getting more expensive. Interest is already the 2nd highest spending category of the budget. You pay that in taxes and again in inflation when we print to pay the rest. Have a good day.

No, we could just actually address the fact that we don’t have to pick between infinite indebtedness due to overspending and infinite indebtedness due to tax cuts for those that need it less.

When we expand the money supply faster than the economy grows (which is almost always for decades), we create inflation. That destroys the value of your wages and savings. That creates wealth and income inequality. That helps create credit bubbles. We need sound money.

The result of these Cantillon effects is that, without anybody doing anything for any other motive other than normal, everyday economic activity (good or evil) we systematically and structurally make the rich richer and the poor poorer relative to each other—even as a rising tide lifts all boats.

Cantillon's Ghost Would Like a Word With You About Wealth Inequality
The modern-day debate around wealth inequality is missing a core cause of wealth concentration: the creation of new money.

Cleaning my small apartment in the city. Got nostalgic listening to The Chainsmokers (feat. Halsey). (You know the one. “We ain’t never getting older.”) Worked my ass off at the bar the last two days. Good hard work. Not what I went to school for. But then we learned nothing really is.

Good morning. Inflation wasn’t a problem for several hundred years. Then we began manipulating the money supply and debasing the currency. Cumulative Estimated CPI U.S. dollar inflation since 1940: 2,292.7% $1.00 in 1940 would have bought you the same as $23.93 today. Have a great day.

One of the few places I’d just nod along with @rbreich.bsky.social. Cheap credit enables companies to leverage way higher buying power than they actually have in assets and hard cash. Sound money fixes that so we can actually have free markets. It’s not about villains. It’s about incentives.

Good morning. The USD has lost 30% of its purchasing power in 2020. Much of that came from increasing the money supply (M2) before then. We’re still seeing inflation from M2 expansion over that period. Sept. 2020 M2: $18.66 trillion July 2026 M2: $23.22 trillion Increase: 24.4% Have a good day.

The six-month-old U.S. war against Iran has cost $38 billion so far and that amount is projected to rise by $3 billion a month, Congress' nonpartisan bookkeeper reported on Tuesday, as the Trump administration ‌searches for ways to end the conflict and reopen the vital Strait of Hormuz.

They specifically want to charge as illegal what he already did, which had no regulations on it to make it illegal at the time, but would be illegal in future if CLARITY passed. And because they can’t retroactively charge him, they’re leaving it unregulated. So now, he can do it again.

When you hear about the latest CPI report, ignore this because the inflation isn’t primarily lending-driven—it’s fiscal. We’re spending so much we print more money to pay for it. More money chasing the same goods = inflation = CPI goes up. Interest rate hikes may happen, but that won’t cool much.
