Lovely to catch up with Eddy Smythe at a celebration of the Tapestry of Black Britons, which commemorates Black British service people who fought in WW2. This includes Eddy’s father Johnny, who served in the RAF and endured 18 months in a POW camp after being shot down defending Britain.

Today is Windrush Day. In 1948, the HMT Empire Windrush arrived at Tilbury. A third of those on board were ex-RAF, returning after WWII. The Windrush Generation helped rebuild Britain and shaped its future. Today we honour their legacy and thank those who paved the way. 🙏

The attack in Edinburgh was appalling; we must recognise the pattern as well as dealing with the perpetrator. Islamophobia and anti‑Muslim hatred have been steadily normalised. Our national security requires us to challenge EVERY form of divisive racist rhetoric fuelling violence on our streets.

Yesterday evening I met with a large group of constituents suffering the effects of 14 years of chronic under investment in policing. Criminality and ASB is significantly impacting parts of our community. This isn’t an instant fix, but this is the start we need.
