Roger Corman's Poe films with Vincent Price could be accused of being pretty ropey but the colourful arch-gothic atmosphere and production design are always off the charts

putting together a framework for how I might next run Hong Kong Demons (my OSR campaign framework inspired by '80s HK action movies and Shin Megami Tensei, basically my excuse to use all of the random bestiary zines I've collected in a novel setting)

Flanagan has said some truly wild shit about his approach though

000

Calum Grace @calumgrace.bsky.social · 15h

Made a post speculating about what I've heard about how Mike Flanagan's handled the new Carrie adaptation but tbh I don't like spreading negativity, and I've not even seen the damn thing, so I'm reserving judgement!

as someone who has known quite a few people from the Balkan region these omissions are a great shame upon my house

010

Calum Grace @calumgrace.bsky.social · 09/10/2026

strongly considering filling in the blank areas of the map just for completeness' sake, not to mention adding even more town and city locations. For instance, I just realised this map is missing Ljubljiana!

Calum Grace @calumgrace.bsky.social · 09/10/2026

and let's be honest, they probably shouldn't lol

Calum Grace @calumgrace.bsky.social · 09/10/2026

also as mentioned in the post the new closer-to-historical inclusion of the Kingdom of Hungary and the Banate of Bosnia is really making me want to expand the Balkans as an optional campaign frame (and expand campaign frames in general tbh)

the new version of Free Company includes a new potential contender in the faction game, Louis I of Hungary, a very dangerous man!

this is 1/4 of the map for my ttrpg Free Company, which is a procedure-heavy game about running a mercenary outfit in 14th century Northern Italy (and, in the case of this map slice, a wee bit of the Balkans)

ALMOST finished with the big v2.0 update of Free Company, coming to my patreon soon. Includes a bit of a map shake-up to fix some ahistorical stuff like the fact that the Serbian Empire wasn't that big in 1370. Its place on the map is now taken by the Banate of Bosnia and a sliver of Hungary

y'all ever spend every hour of every day reliving every faux pas, slip-up, or generally socially awkward thing you've ever done? gets exhausting dude

when a character finds a script on the ground and it's about them reading the script that they just found on the ground? one of my favourite moves, there's a reason I loved Alan Wake 2 so much.

so far this game feels like they essentially extruded the Oldest House out to cover Manhattan, weird little corners and odd random mini-quests and all, and I couldn't be happier

it takes place in a vast factory/furnace and the music makes this section feel like a cathedral

Calum Grace @calumgrace.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

the music that starts up in this section is wonderful, some real Philip Glass sad horror type stuff

Calum Grace @calumgrace.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

this third section appears to essentially be a stealth-remake of the middle section of Masaki Kobayashi's KWAIDAN, "The Woman of the Snow" which rules
