In our new perspective paper @pnas.org, we show how the comments you put in eBird/iNaturalist can help ecologist with collecting much-needed data on species interactions: www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

1/11 🐟 2nd new preprint today from @chasedbrownstein.bsky.social We investigated how losing the swim bladder, the organ that most fishes use to control their buoyancy, has shaped the diversity of ray-finned fishes over 90 million years of Earth history. The results surprised us. 🧵

Heard of the haplodiploid hypothesis (=¾ relatedness hypothesis)? It’s long been a staple of biology textbooks – you may’ve run into it in Intro Biology, Genetics, Evolution, or Behavior. It’s also been very influential on social evolution theory, yet surprisingly, it long remained untested.🧵

Cool paper on a question that I’ve wondered about for a while. Since the evolution of mimicry is dependent on the experience of predators and not on spatial proximity of mimics and models per se, allopatric mimicry can evolve when predators are migratory: www.pnas.org/doi/abs/10.1...

On the diversity of females in the animal kingdom
Our recent article about the origin, genomics and evolution of female-limited polymorphisms in animals document a widespread phenomenon, with implications for evolutionary biology and society.
