Such a trip. The dude was super nice. I need to ask how he’s doing. He does a Jungian live stream every Tuesday night. I haven’t been able to attend but it’s definitely interesting. He talks about synchronicity and complexes and stuff. www.youtube.com/live/pYZvL6P...

My wonderful wife and I attended San Japan ‘26. We typically take a picture over by the river walk in downtown San Antonio. Had a great time as always.

I hope Dorothy and Toto are OK. But really, it is sad to see peoples’ homes get destroyed.

You rule, I appreciate it. It’s definitely whipping me. Going on a 14 hour day today. I think tomorrow will be a wash! And that’s a very cute visitor there haha!

I got my Master Beekeeper certification through Cornell a few weeks ago. Gonna toot my horn about it. Also got a job at Lockhart Honey Co. Working insane hours and then taking care of my own customers outside of it. It’s been rough, but I am broke and need the money, people.

I guess the least intrusive way to verify my age was with my credit card on here. Save the children right, Adam Hoffman? I am making mead for the first time. I got an aggressive yeast on accident because I have no idea what I am doing. Supposedly it will hit 18% ABV, which may be pretty harsh.
5.5 gallons of mead in the making. Already frothing and fermenting. Crazy mead-making kitchen setup.

They started doing age verification for Texans on Bluesky. I assume they don’t want us communicating before the midterms. So now it’s difficult for me to log on. Yay! But would have responded earlier. Those are beautiful, thank you for sharing them.

I honestly should learn more about other species. We have carpenter bees here but I’ve never tried following them back to their nest. Would be really cool to know more about wild bees. It’s rare to see orchard or bumblebees these days. I think a lot of people confuse carpenter bees for them.

I know honey bee poop is yellow, but they will refuse to poop in their hive and will wait til weather is right to do cleansing flights. A lot of pollens are yellow too, but honey bees are very meticulous about not letting any go to waste and will groom it off their bodies. 🤔

That’s great they left by choice and you didn’t have to force them out! Maybe that area was perfect in the cooler weather but the high temps made them think otherwise. 🤔 but I don’t know the behavior of those bees. Honey bees will swarm but will leave behind a group to try and rebuild again.

That sounds great. At the grocery store a cashier told me “you’re the only one who ever buys that stuff.” When I got the quorn lol! Texas sucks but has gotten much better for non meat eaters.

I had no idea it was named after a village! That’s awesome! They make a good chkn product. Their faux beef, not so great. We normally do Gardein or Morning Star for making spaghetti or tacos and things.

It only came to our area maybe 6-7 years ago and it’s become a staple for us. It goes well with so many things. Just 10-15 years ago there weren’t that many alternative options. Now there’s so many, it’s great. And they’re legitimately tasty! Though they’re getting very expensive!

Yes sea weed, cucumber, tomato, spinach and ramen noodles. The sauce is what makes it so good though. The cubes are from a brand called Quorn that makes a chicken alternative. It tastes almost just like chicken it’s such a trip!

I did a bee removal for a guy in a band I have listened to since I was a kid. Totally honored to have met the guitar player and one of the original founders of Vile. He hooked me up with a signed album with one of my favorite drummers, Mike Hamilton. What a small world it is, and a crazy coincidence

Agreed. Been vegetarian since 2007! I will say that yesterday I got a bottle of taurine supplements. I believe they are helpful even though taurine isn’t a necessary amino acid for survival, and apparently can be created by the body from my cursory research.

Same, we don’t eat meat either for ethical reasons. But I think that’s why I loved the pierogis. The ones I had were just potato and could get them with cheese. I think wheat jacks me up too. I should try moving away from it.

Collin Stubblefield @caliphas.bsky.social · 15/06/2026
I believe Poland knows how to eat well, too. I used to work at a restaurant that sold pierogis. I am fairly ignorant about Polish cuisine, but I know I want to stuff my face with those! I can only imagine pierogis and wheat beer. I used to love Hoegaarden, and I’ll bet there’s a Polish equivalent!

Awesome! I know Polish beekeeping is serious business. I wonder if Miód is similar to mead, aka Viking Hooch! I am attempting to make some but am waiting on some food grade sanitizer to arrive. I had heard it was easy to make, and the more I look into it, the more I realize it is a rabbit hole!

Collin Stubblefield @caliphas.bsky.social · 14/06/2026
Damn it. I was enjoying my fantasy of how Poland is like paradise haha! JK. Sounds like it would be just as tough if not tougher as a beekeeper there, though Poland does have a much deeper beekeeping history than we do. And you have the other Donald there, PM Tusk. He is my preferred Donald!

Dang, using the conversion from złoty to dollars, they are much more affordable than anything I could find stateside. Everything here is just stupid expensive. Poland is awesome. You also have some of the world’s best black metal.

That’s kinda what I ran into—it seems like most of them are hand crafted, and not like something you would pick up at a big box store. Seems like there’s a market for them so don’t know why they’re not manufactured. Maybe they’re considered dangerous. Thank you for the link!
110
Collin Stubblefield @caliphas.bsky.social · 13/06/2026
Do you have a recommended brand by chance? I may have to import one! There’s not a whole lot of choices here in the states. I remember a decent one looking at about $200-$300 for the handle and the blade with shipping.

Those are so cool. I was close to trying to get one to help maintain our bee yard since we have some pretty gnarly weeds. Looks like a great deal of skill is involved in using them!

Your wife is a champion to use that scythe! I want one of those to go grim reaper mode and do some weed whackin’.

I worked for the city doing damn weed eating (worst job ever) for a short while before literally injuring myself by falling in a sinkhole. Anyway, we used Stihl fs131’s and after that I had to have one for myself. That thing has been a beast! I love it. Chews up just about anything in front of it.

Some pretty fat combs. We ended up with around 10.5 gallons or 120 lbs of honey this year. Up from 3 gallons last year, but we also have 3 times the amount of bees.

Huisache and catclaw acacias are getting bigger! Though they have experienced a bit of heat stress. So now my wife has put a shade over them and I think it’s helping.

The one thing I want most that this brings up: trains. Where the fuck are our high speed rail systems!? I should be able to get to Houston, Dallas and San Antonio from Austin on a bullet train, and the billionaires should pay for it.
030
Collin Stubblefield @caliphas.bsky.social · 25/05/2026
But I don’t think people around here would give them the same grace as I would!
010
Collin Stubblefield @caliphas.bsky.social · 25/05/2026
I will say that if they’re carpenter bees or your Polish equivalent, in Texas they can be considered a nuisance and aren’t treated like bumblebees. People kill them here. I might put my suit on and try to grab their combs out with gloves on and use essential oils to get them to stay out, but…
110
Collin Stubblefield @caliphas.bsky.social · 25/05/2026
From what I am reading, the only way to get rid of them is to kill them. With honey bees you can sometimes bother them enough to force them to abscond. You might be able to use some strong scents or smoke to make them feel like it isn’t a great option. Then use spray foam and plug that hole!
110
Collin Stubblefield @caliphas.bsky.social · 25/05/2026
I’ll be completely honest with you, I’m not sure. I don’t think carpenter bees really grow out large colonies like honey bees do. But this would be a question for an expert in that field. I’m not sure if they are carpenter bees but as others mentioned, they do at least resemble them!
110
Collin Stubblefield @caliphas.bsky.social · 24/05/2026
As others mentioned definitely not honey bees! Not really sure what to do in this situation. I would probably leave them alone if they won’t cause structural damage to anything!

Of the 26 Huisache seedlings I started a couple months back, 9 or so have survived. Hope they make it.
