I got my Master Beekeeper certification through Cornell a few weeks ago. Gonna toot my horn about it. Also got a job at Lockhart Honey Co. Working insane hours and then taking care of my own customers outside of it. It’s been rough, but I am broke and need the money, people.

I guess the least intrusive way to verify my age was with my credit card on here. Save the children right, Adam Hoffman? I am making mead for the first time. I got an aggressive yeast on accident because I have no idea what I am doing. Supposedly it will hit 18% ABV, which may be pretty harsh.

5.5 gallons of mead in the making. Already frothing and fermenting.

I did a bee removal for a guy in a band I have listened to since I was a kid. Totally honored to have met the guitar player and one of the original founders of Vile. He hooked me up with a signed album with one of my favorite drummers, Mike Hamilton. What a small world it is, and a crazy coincidence

Some pretty fat combs. We ended up with around 10.5 gallons or 120 lbs of honey this year. Up from 3 gallons last year, but we also have 3 times the amount of bees.

Huisache and catclaw acacias are getting bigger! Though they have experienced a bit of heat stress. So now my wife has put a shade over them and I think it’s helping.

Mixing up some nutrition for the bees today. Global pollen with Apis Biologix, and some 1:1 syrup since it’s in the 70’s every day this next week. Found these totes for $20 at Home Depot and they perfectly fit 10 25lb bags of sugar, so I’m stoked about it. Happy bee’ing! #beekeeping

As a beekeeper who relies on bees to make ends meet, it can be tough for me to bring up politics. My field is mostly dominated by “good ole boys” who have a different worldview than me. I used to be able to get along just fine with these folks. I am from South Texas. This is all very hard for me.

Sadly, all of these frames are just enough to take care 15 8-frame Langstroth hives with a brood chamber and honey super each. I only ordered 1/2 of what I need this year. I’ll order the rest in a couple of months. 😑

This is the first time I have seen: 1) sunflowers blooming in January and 2) yesterday I saw a honey bee drone. We normally don’t start seeing them until March. This is absurd. I am thinking if I don’t get my sh*t together soon, my bees are gonna swarm on my in February.
