Dear Mayor Farkas,

People everywhere are struggling with skyrocketing energy bills. Our world is facing a devastating climate crisis. The good news: The solutions to both challenges are in our hands.

You can play a key role in cutting costs and climate pollution by bringing cheap, clean energy to the community you lead. The time is now.

As the world electrifies, and technology changes, it is becoming increasingly clear that we need more and more power generation, and that the cheapest, and cleanest source is renewable energy, in particular, solar.

Clean energy is now the cheapest energy. The most effective way to keep electricity bills down, protect our communities’ health, and avoid the worst impacts of the climate crisis is to make it easier to generate and deliver clean energy to more households and businesses.

You are uniquely positioned to make this happen because you have direct control over policy related to local land use, zoning, and transportation systems. You also intimately understand the needs and priorities of your communities more so than national leaders, and can tailor clean energy solutions to Calgary, specifically. That is why we are calling on you to lead the way in bringing cheap, clean energy to your communities.

We are especially excited by your administration’s potential support for balcony, or plug-in solar. These small, portable, and affordable arrays help offset energy use and demand, increase energy security, and empower citizens to take charge of their own lives, reduce their expenses, and increase their quality of life.
