Not that most character deaths natter to *us*. We simply have to care because the chosen protagonist is related to them in some capacity, not because we as part of the story have been given any reason to care

Events in the story simply exist to make it Right, or make the opps wrong. Which is really REALLY bad when uts a character-driven story, because the characters do not truly have stakes in the story. Characters simply die or live at the mercy of cheap, predictable emotional manipulation.

It's a very dissonant narrative that creates confusion, and feels charged with a lot of bias when the setting is inherently factional, while the results of those divides are only acknowledged in one direction. It's very, very awkward.

Unironically I feel like most if not all of WoWs story problems would be solved if they just hired a writer. Like a real one. Go into a book store, peruse the fantasy section and find a writer to email. I don't care if they don't know WoW lore cause the problems are so much deeper than that.
