Yup, the u is (typically) silent. Japanese drops i and u sounds between unvoiced consonants, and sometimes at the end of a word if it’s after an unvoiced consonant (like how “desu” is usually pronounced “des.” Obviously there are also exceptions and dialects and whatever)

Yeah!! For some reason this doesn't tend to get taught in Japanese classes, but "i" and "u" tend to get dropped between unvoiced consonants. Ie, daisuki is "dai-skee" instead of "dai-soo-kee." It's something you get a natural feel for after a while
