Here it is this afternoon. I couldn’t get the same angle because of that truck, but I was able to get the old phone booth.
A boarded up building with white sides and red trim that used to be a neighborhood grocery store. Next to it is an old phone booth.

This is an incredible bit of research and writing. Couldn’t put it down, and gasped a number of times. Of particular interest to me because my direct ancestors were among the flood of immigrants into south central Kentucky at the time of this spree. Wonder what they knew.

Medieval painting at RISD showing two dudes blowing on horns and another holding a banner and all have that strange upturned angle to their heads that you see on 15th century paintings.

Square button with photograph of Al Gore eating Tipper’s face at the 2000 Democratic Convention, with the words “the kiss” in hot pink script, like its actual passion, which is just weird on like eight different levels.

Trying to use @marriott-bonvoy.bsky.social to check into a hotel and they offer to UNLOCK A WORLD OF EXPERIENCES which means, apparently being unable to login, having to deal with TFA that moves too fast, getting password reset emails that only have links to chatbots, and being on hold at 7:30am.
Screenshot of a @marriot-bonvoy login page that offers to "unlock a world of experiences" but it doesn't do that

My getaway vehicle, a carriage being pulled in a hurry by a horse. Probably has something to do with untaxed liquor or loving pretty women.

In fact, I’m just getting back from the funeral of my uncle John Graham, my dad’s youngest brother and the last of his generation and the last of his kind—a genuinely good man. RIP Uncle John.

August Willich, legendary capital-C Communist and general in the United States Army who used Prussian tactics to beat the shit out of some Texans at Rowlett's Station disagrees with the White House.
A balding man with longer hair, a tremendous beard, and communist credentials that would shame Marx himself, wearing the uniform of a United States Brigadier General in the American Civil War. Looks like he's dreaming of killing more slavers and making the world better for the working classes.

Hey! That’s the old RevWar gallery in my museum. School groups LOVE to run by it and git the buttons that make the cannons go BOOM. Anyhow, the new gallery is opening on Saturday. Come on down to the South Carolina State Museum and say hi.

We Claude Akins-stans are a bit on edge until we hear your verdict
Folksy and beefy (in the worst way) American television actor, Claude Akins, who has lots of Brill Creme in his Ronald Reaganesque hair, suspiciously arched eyebrows, crows feet, and a crooked smile (the legal variety).

When the star of my dissertation was on her death bed in 1846, her husband recorded things in his diary. He actually never remarried, which is a bit of a surprise.
Sept. 14, 1846
Monday morning. My dear C is certainly getting much worse and without a speedy alteration cannot survive many days.

Monday night. The doctor thinks my Dear C cannot live till morning. Oh what heart rending news. I must! I do still hope for her recovery though the Dr. tells me I need not.

September 15, 1846

Tuesday morning. About one or two o'clock in the morning my Dear wife expired. She had left a world of trouble. She has also left a husband that was devotedly attached to her, but I trust my loss is her eternal gain, as she was a devoted follower of the Lord.

O! may the Lord help me to bear up under my bereavement and may he help me to manage aright my dear little children, five in number, the oldest not quite seven years of age and the youngest not eleven months old.

O what a task.

This is the ideal male body type. You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like.
Engraving of a man (Louis T. Wigfall, a buffoon) with body that has no torso. He's got extra long legs and arms and he's doffing a top hat in a gesture of thanks.

historians have doubts about whether the moment depicted actually happened.
A truly terrible painting of a modern Santa Claus handing a saber to Confederate General Nathan Forrest, who is on a horse in a snowy woodland scene. It's fucking weird, man, and I'm kind of embarrassed to post it.

Just read in this book that Benjamin Franklin Randolph is buried real close to where I am now, so obviously, I ran over there immediately.

Sketch of a scene from Murder, She Wrote, with Harry McGraw and Jessica Fletcher sitting on a park bench scarfing hotdogs and talking over a case. They’re kinda like me and the Mrs because I’m street savvy but hard-luck and sort of dumb and the Mrs is way smarter than me and she may be wrong, but doubts it very much.
