A society that's not certain if trans people should have rights while arguing the fancy algorithms need them is not a right society

I feel like a lot of the existential talk surrounding AI is sort of a dovetail to Granny Weatherwax's "don't treat people as things" idea wherein you should be very suspicious anytime someone wants to treat things as people more than they do some actual people

I'm moving more towards vintage in baseball cards as well for the same reasons. Old cards of Hall of Famers cost less than a random modern rookie who may flame out in a year. I keep these 75 year old cards on my desk. No modern card can compare to these.

Baseball cards are going through the same thing with constant price increases. It's so frustrating to have two of my hobbies pricing themselves out of viability at the same time.

It’s, um…interesting that the documentation req’d by disadvantaged folks to access social safety net programs - in the interest of “accountability” to ensure no improper use - is not req’d by the very politicians who rail about the need to be responsible with taxpayer dollars.

There are a lot of great quotes in that excellent article. The Orioles season to me felt like there was a complete vacuum as far as leadership from the manager, which Alonso stepped in to fill on top of his usual leadership by example after Adley was traded.

It feels genuinely ridiculous having to say this, but the point of art is to connect with another human. Someone thought of that painting or melodic line or scene or paragraph that is suddenly making you weep, and that means that they saw you and understood you without even meeting you.

The baseball was fun, but the organization seems like a mess. I hope they're able to sustain the league while improving the behind the scenes stuff.

But seriously, what kind of psychopathy drives these guys like Chapek, age 66, and Iger, age 75, to have tens of millions of dollars and just keep going with this kind of thing? I assure you, if I had that money, the world would never hear from me again, especially at that age.

I agree about the defensive side, especially for first basemen. The career dWAR for Keith Hernandez and Don Mattingly are 1.3 and -6.2. Those numbers are absurd to anyone who ever watched them play.

That's a nice card. I have a set that I made up from one card of each set from each year and that's the one that I chose for 1954 Bowman.

DoorDash spent $1.4M trying to stop Zohran Mamdani from becoming mayor. This week's historic $131.5M enforcement action against DoorDash for underpaying NYC delivery workers shows why. Yet another reminder that the only thing that can beat organized money is organized people.

In a wage-theft settlement, DoorDash now has to pay its workers around 100 times what it spent trying to beat Zohran Mam
