But why would you even use AI for a translation? Yes, it takes a lot of time, but there's so much fun in it too. Like, that's the kind of research that I do for the fan translation I'm working on. I want this to be a labour of love and an homage to all the people who wrote and created before me.
Although not stated explicitly, those verses are a poetic translation of the "Song of Amhairghin". Many English translations exist, each with their distinctive aesthetic choices. I do not know Sean-Ghaeilge nor Nua-Ghaeilge, so it is beyond me to offer a translation of the original text. Instead, it's clear that the Japanese text makes some unexpected extrapolations. Whether those choices stem strictly from a poetic reading of the Gaelic original, are lifted from a Japanese translation I am not aware of, or a reading of an English translation, it matters not too much.

For the sake of this translation, I have selected a preexisting English translation that, I feel, makes choices close to those of the Japanese version. In particular, the swelling 海の上を吹き渡る風なり, the choice of 深淵 highlighting the depth; わたくし and この詩人 that answer the questions (...if not I?) are elements that go beyond a literal translation. They are found in the rendition by Thomas Rolleston in Myths & Legends of the Celtic Race (1911), itself inspired by the French translation of de Jubainville in Le cycle mythologique irlandais et la mythologie celtique (1884). I thus propose a loose translation based on his, while keeping the Japanese in mind and offering some balance.

For the first verse, I like Rolleston's very direct genitive, and I also keep his form for the first line. Because of the general image, I choose to translate 深淵 as the more general "Ocean", because I find "Abyss" or "Depths" a little bit too harsh in this particular construction. I forgo the "ray" for "teardrop", closer to the Japanese text and following John Carey's translation in The Celtic Heroic Age (2003).

Saria is probably the one I think has the best look, with a good balance between her big eyes and the rest. Yes, everything could be a bit more intentional and clean like in Coup de Foudre's Après Papi, but comparing this to genAI is just so disingenuous or politically-dubious.

I was too far away to reach the same NPC on the JP version, but here some JP text. I get it, there's the usual katakana to transcribe the accent and the チェ here is a phonetic deformation of 知恵. So the localisation might have want to capture that, but... I still think it's going overboard.

It's just that Panorama-tō serves as a reflection of our world through the bizarre lens of Hirosuke Hitomi, going against modernity and rationality (and Westernisation in the original novella). In fact, that's what the game went for (see manual intro), but adapting that to fantasy.
Introduction from the manual of Panorama-tō, in Japanese.

I did that for the previous patch of Honkai: Star Rail, so I might share this round of references for the Trailblaze Quest names in 4.2:

2) In the Shadow of the Millennium

5) A Resounding Gong or a Clashing Cymbal
↳ Quote from 1 Corinthians 13:1 ("If I speak in human and angelic tongues but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal.") (famous description of love by Paul)
5-a) Mass Deaths and Detective Fiction
↳ Just a nod to serial murders in detective fiction, I guess.
5-b) Postmodern Imagenesis
↳ Postmodern philosophy, maybe Lyotard, La condition postmoderne (language shift, criticism of teleological positivism), but it's such a non-stylised title.
6) Metaphors We Live By
↳ Lakoff, Johnson, Metaphors We Live By (conceptual metaphor, language as structuring reality, cultural relativity)
6-a) Serotonin Exposure Phobia
↳ A nod to exposure therapy, I guess (but it's just 'Serotonin Phobia' in Chinese)
7) The Generative Grammar of Liquid Modernity
↳ generative grammar (grammatical rules as an expression of the organisation of a cognitive system)
↳ Bauman, Liquid Modernity (fluid society, absence of final state, rise of social anomy)
7-a) Happiness, or a Fatal Ailment
↳ From the Chinese title, Kierkegaard, Sygdommen til Døden (existentialism, religious faith, despair as a sin)
8) Arcadia Revisited

Eiko Maruko Siniawer, Waste: Consuming Postwar Japan, 2018

Ide Toshihiko was one such unusual voice, who served four terms as an assemblyman and five years as the mayor of Numazu city, in Shizuoka prefecture, and was a widely recognized innovator in garbage separation. Interviewed in the late 1980s about his thoughts on garbage disposal, Ide was quite active then in citizens’ movements as the director of a consumer cooperative (Seikatsu Kurabu Seikyō) and a representative of the Citizens’ Association for Thinking about Garbage (Haikibutsu o Kangaeru Shimin no Kai). Ide did not shy away from bold and implausible ideas, like turning a central park in large cities, such as Hibiya Park in Tokyo, into a dump so as to force people to experience firsthand the pain of garbage management. He also made no bones about the economic costs of reducing garbage. So entwined were sys-
tems of production and garbage disposal, and so great the dependency on mass production and mass consumption, that sincere efforts to reduce garbage would require slimming down production and lifestyles. If things were valued and kept for a long time, if disposability tapered, and if garbage were thus reduced, there would be, in Ide’s blunt estimation, a sharp drop in GDP.51 Such a view, expressed so unapologetically, was an aberration in this decade. Much more typical was the assumption that affluence and daily lives were not to be jeopardized, which encouraged the tendency to define the challenges posed by garbage in terms of sanitation management.

Looking at Silent Hill f post-release, I was so correct with this comparison. Don't think that women's literature in the 1960s was all sweet. It was chaotic, violence, full of passion, of cruelty. It's about reclaiming one's self, whatever it takes. I mean, read that:
From Takako Takahashi, Sōjikei, 1971 (tr. Noriko Mizuta Lippit).

“I have been waiting for you.” The old woman appeared, something that looked like a smile floating out from among the wrinkles. She carried a blackened, middle-sized box. Instead of coming close to me and sitting in the open corridor, she sat at the edge of the room on the tatami mats. Untying the purple string with tassels, she took an old copper mirror out of the box.
‘‘Look into this.” She extended it to me.
‘‘What is this?” I took the heavy, cold mirror in my hand.
‘‘It’s my eyes. Reflect your face in my eyes.” Hesitating, I looked at the old woman. Her gray hair hung down, dry like straw. Retaining no moisture, her skin was like leather.
‘‘You don’t know. Look into this mirror,” the old woman insisted stickily.
I looked into the mirror. My face was reflected in vague outline on the dull surface. While I stared at it the face began gradually to change. Or I should say that from behind the blue-brown surface of the mirror a strange, unfamiliar face emerged vaguely, and it overlapped my face.
The face which revealed itself contained anger.
‘‘It is the face of mother.” At these words of the old woman, the image on the mirror’s surface disappeared.
‘‘It was not my mother’s,” I said. Then the copper mirror in my hand disappeared too, and looking up I saw that the old woman’s eyes were gazing at me with the same color as the mirror’s surface.
“It is the face of mother itself in general.” The old woman laughedwith a husky voice. Holding her right hand straight as if it were a blade, she hit her left wrist with it. The artery was cut and the blood began spurting out. The spray of blood made a veil between the old woman and me, and she began to fade away, only her despising laughter resounding; the blood crept stickily over the tatami mats, the flow seeming to displace the darkness, and the voice of the old woman could be heard from far away saying it was the blood of women, and the sky was filled with a red-black sticky secretion, and the old woman stretched out her hands and scooped it up saying it was the blood of women, look there is a limitless amount, scooped and scooped and it was still there; it is transmitted to the woman who comes out of your stomach, then to another woman who comes out of that woman, and what is transmitted is woman’s karma, here try to scoop it, where can you find maternal love? It is nothing but an illusion manufactured by men. Look, look, there, there is only blood, why is there such a thing?

My knowledge of the Genji monogatari is so rusty. I know that there's a whole section with cormorant fishing in Fuji no uraba (Chapter 33), but I just don't know if there's more in there. Like, there's this ukiyo-e by Kunichika, but it seems an extrapolation, as far as I can remember.
Kunichika, Lord Genji's Cormorant Fishing Excursion, 1864.

Wonderful scene of companions of Prince Genji cormorant fishing in a large garden pond. The beauties wade through the shallow water holding leashes attached to the diving birds, baskets bobbing next to them to hold the catch. At right, a young woman excitedly offers up a basket of small fish, smiling happily to her companion. Cherry trees bloom along the opposite shore and a narrow waterfall rushes over a small island with a teahouse. A charming design and an unusual subject, nicely detailed with embossing on the white kimono collars and trim.

I caught up with the ASMR stream in La+ channel, and it might be in the most chaotic thing I have ever watched in my life.

Oui, alors on ne m'avait jamais dit que The House in Fata Morgana était *littéralement* Le Clan des Poe.

Even without the context of the Twitter discourse or whatever, I fully agree with this article. I'll get into it at some point, but it's important to remember how 癒し was always a site for exploitation, and it has been thoroughly bowdlerised and sugarcoated when the West discovered that concept.
