iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

I backed these way back in March and they finally arrived yesterday. If I start leveling up, you’ll know why. If I don’t, well… I may have to search within myself 😭 Talking yesterday about compulsively collecting books! Um… 🙃

A stack of Volumes 1-9 of the spectacularly colourful How To Think When You Draw with Lorenzo! books

I guess that’s true. Another good reminder I’m almost 50 & not as young as I think I am. I think even my first attempt was in 2006 as part of a webring using geocities, (in Australia with horribly slow internet).

They still sell them through the Worldbuilders site, I think. Heck, if you’re ever in Wisconsin you could probably rock up to the warehouse and grab whole boxes. I’ll let them know you’re coming. I’m sure they could use the space! 😂

I could never do piracy. I once found someone had bought my first Max Overacts book, scanned it and put it on a piracy site where it had almost 20x more views than I’d made sales. I’m just an indie nobody. I mean, who the heck…? Bleagh. Nah. I just deprive myself instead of pirate 😂

I’m trying to get one good book on everything so I never have to look at Google images again And circus, retro and kitschy stuff 😊

Caanan @caanan.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

For me, I can’t see any other way to be profitable other than doing it myself. I’m sure I’m not the only one. There are still so few paths, but plenty of places along those paths to set up shop! 😊

DRM-free seems to be more common with indie comics at least and, to me at least, indie comics is where it’s at

Caanan @caanan.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

I’m slowly amassing a collection of coffee table books for that purpose too, image references, and that’s a problem. 😬 I’m buying all the heaviest books! But they’re all so nice! 😭

I read magazines through Libby on my iPad these days, having thrown out mounds of magazines in our last move. I currently have three boxes of Nat Geos that I want to slice up and start a reference drawer of images but I can’t bring myself to do it! 😂

There’s a comic in that. “Sony, in the wake of their dead media format, sends out… the Beta Squad.” “Buy now” only on the PS store, you gullible fools!

110

Caanan @caanan.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

I’ve “purged” my collection so many times though and found myself thinking “this could have been a digital read.” It’s easy to delete physical too. Sort of. 😂

120

Caanan @caanan.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

I hear that. If you buy something, it should be yours. I bought a bunch of stuff on the iTunes Store in Australia and when I moved to Canada I lost access to everything because of international rights. (It might still be there if I got a VPN but still)

Caanan @caanan.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

I prefer physical too but I’m at the stage where I read them and pass them on, unless they really blow me away. Space is a premium and we’ve moved so much and all that weight costs you. We’re probably not done moving yet so the eye is always on the future.

Everyone under the age of 20 has grown up with webcomics being mostly for free. (Patreon subscribers are all older with credit cards, yes?) Newly built apartments in cities are increasingly tiny with no room for ’stuff’ so… Digital is no doubt the future. Am I wrong in seeing a potential problem?

Yes! If you can find it, Lake Michigan Monster, their previous film, is also more of the same live action Looney Tunes/Monty Python sensibility. Less polished, but still fun. It was on prime here in Canada.

#startrek fan? The Liners did a Star Trek week over at CBR. This is mine, but much more fun art if you follow the link - www.cbr.com/star-trek-60... 😁

Cartoon of Data from Star Trek: TNG giving a cat to Marvel’s Scarlet Witch who is delighted because it’s a CAT, people! A cat. The caption reads Datawanda? Don’t mind if I do…

Now I want Jolibee and we don’t have Jolibee! (“it really brought back some memories”…? You really HAVE seen the movie!) 😉

When you make comics, that IS the fooling around bit! 🥳

010

Caanan @caanan.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

The “fooling around with it” leads to the most problems because that’s where you get environmental disaster, humanitarian grievances, labour theft, societal brain drain, misinformation, funding sociopath billionaires for … poops and giggles. Hell of a time waster. 😑

The sad thing is, a short while ago, we had a fully functioning network, internet of things, where you could connect with others, figure out DIY, collaborate, and create. Now everyone clicks the AI button, leaving the internet of things to slowly disappear, replaced by regurgitation.

010

Caanan @caanan.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

Maybe if we weren’t, all of us, starving artists we wouldn’t be so quick to save a buck! 😂

I don’t subscribe to all art is art. I’ve spent the “10,000 hours” on art (and to a lesser extent writing) but not on music or design. In fact, only comics, not even “art”. It’s just a lack of empathy for others. They’ll say lack of funds but that’s not it. It’s convenience. We love it! 🫠

Caanan @caanan.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

I heard this about genAI/LLMs the other day “don’t use it for things you aren’t willing to lose” which 💡explains the mentality of many authors and musicians using AI art for covers. The AI fliers. Artists using it to write. They never had it to lose Empathy glasses for the short sighted please 🤓

Saw Forgotten Island. I want to see it again to soak up the details. There’s so much going on in it! The characters, action, and world building wrapped around a big beautiful heart. And in 3D too. Nobody does 3D better than Dreamworks If you’re on the fence, jump! Go! Spread the joy 🎥🤯🫠😁

Just downloaded this and had a look around. This is not looking good for my credit card. Slick app. Nothing confusing about the navigation which is yay! So many good looking comics I’ve not heard of 😍

At least four energy bars spread throughout the day, a litre of water and nursing a coffee as long as possible in a very good thermos. If the venue has fish and chips though, screw the plan and get outta my way. And I could endure a song. Give me some ciders and you’ll get backup vocals

This is an absolute delight. Very funny. Fun retro design. There’s two episodes so far. Streamers can go die in a hole. Indie entertainment, rise! Anyone point me to more comedy I’m missing out on? youtube.com/watch?v=zcsk...

I know I’m an outlier but I always did it backwards. Up early, bacon, eggs, sausages, pancakes one time when my wife helped, which makes lunch and dinner less important. Helps to know nobody & have social anxiety so you basically leave when the con is over. Glad to be anti-helpful! 😁

Are you writing that? Can I draw it? I will dream about this tonight and sleep the best sleep I’ve had in years…

New Darkwing Duck? More ads? Excuse my Australian but, Yeah… nah.

Darkwing Ducks stands above St Canard ready to serve dark justice on evil-doers. An image from the new Disney+ reboot, now with more ads! Coming soon to shareholders meetings soon. (Parody image. Or is it??)

Caanan @caanan.bsky.social · 23/09/2026

Yeah, I dunno about this reboot. Maybe if they pulled back on the ads

Darkwing Duck stands above St Canard, ready to fight crime in his swanky duds brought to you by many fine establishments, coming soon to the Disney+ shareholders

The local comic store does sketch cover evenings occasionally on Sunday. Dropped by for an hour last night to draw on the new Archie no.1 It’s a great read too. 😁
