My concern is less about how abusers are pathologized and individualized than about how abuse is rationalized and naturalized by pathologizing the victim. When people with BPD are abused, it often isn’t recognized as abuse because their pathologization naturalizes and rationalizes it.

So the message of this research out of China, where you were seeing a lot of kids using A.I. to help them, was that when they were using the A.I., they were getting things done faster. But it turned out that the skills they were learning were not holding, that their actual personal performance, at least in the way we traditionally measure it, was degrading.

Today’s engineers are far better systems thinkers than I was when I graduated from school. But I was a much better transistor thinker.

What do you mean by systems thinker?

They think of large systems. Today’s computers have trillions, hundreds of trillions of transistors in them. When I first graduated from school, the first chip I worked on had 200 transistors. I knew every one of them by name. No engineer does that today. Most engineers now work well above the transistor, well above the functionality, and they’re cobbling things together to do things.

So you need to think much more about systems and interactions of systems. So some of the lower-level knowledge is gone.

Dartmouth provost’s email statement to the student newspaper about how his op-Ed’s are AI was produced by AI! You can’t make this stuff up! Just write your own email!!!

In an email statement to The Dartmouth on Sept. 18, Schnell wrote that he uses artificial intelligence for "language refinement, copyediting, improving clarity and organization and making writing processes more efficient," but "review[s] the final text and take[s] responsibility for its content."
"I develop ideas and arguments, conduct the research, evaluate the evidence and sources, determine the structure, prepare drafts and decide what appears in the final text," Schnell wrote. "I regard these technologies as assistive tools. They do not identify the problem, design the research project, guarantee the validity of research results, interpretations, citations, conclusions or substitute for my research, intellectual judgment or authorship."
Schnell's Sept. 18 email statement to The Dartmouth was itself "100% Al-written," according to a Pangram test.

In a follow-up statement about the composition of the email, Schnell wrote that he "developed the substance and wrote a draft" of the email, then "used an Al tool to assist with language and clarity, taking on several suggestions (including reworded sentences), before reading it through, making minor changes and sending it to you with my signature."
"I am fully responsible for any text under my signature," Schnell added.
Schnell previously wrote in an email statement on Sept. 10 that the
"characterization of my Washington Post essay as '100% Al-written' is not accurate."

It's understandable for people to be deeply upset about this, because the framing of this summary card is really misstating the scope and implication of the ruling. The actual ruling is narrowly drawn (and caused by several really bad choices the prosecution made in prosecution!)
