education is not actually the silver bullet. I get why neoliberal true believers take it as an article of faith but correlation (with low income inequality) is not causality. education is incredibly important, but we need to stop thinking of it primarily as a lever for economic mobility.

www.threads.com/share/_v8bFm... this nepal footage is some serious wrath-of-god awfulness except if it were actually god’s wrath it would be visited on corporate executives and oil industry magnates

This video shows the flooding in Nepal where a man starts filming near ground level (near, I believe the green house), and slowly as the water comes in, he keeps moving to higher ground. He keeps stop...

Neoclassical econ assumes rationality. The corollary of, "If you're so smart, why aren't you rich?" is "you're rich, so you must be very smart!" Thus, people assume that if powerful, well-compensated CEOs insist that "AI is changing everything," well then, *AI must be changing everything*. 1/
A sepia-toned 1950s era boardroom in which men in suits sit around a circular table. The chair of the meeting has been replaced with a man in a straitjacket, making a funny face. The heads of the remaining board-members have been replaced with robots from 1930s pulp magazines. The image has been hand-tinted.

looking forward to seeing the Odyssey, as well as Nolan’s future takes on the Iliad and the Aeneid. Which should be faithful adaptations of the epics, narrated by Jason Isaacs. This is not a crazy idea.

part of this is like, conservatives projecting; part of this is conservatives unable to imagine politics without money; and part of this is dudes who are so out of touch with feminized labor that they think children's birthday parties exist as a spontaneous act of parthogenesis

I was really frustrated by Pittsburgh's URA in the past -- the landbank didn't produce any new housing for anyone! Since Mayor Gainey was elected, we've seen a lot of movement from the URA, in addition to the Mayor's other work on affordable housing.

the benevolent take on this typo is it’s actually some oblique trolling by the nyt and the implication is one of the guests might drive their entree through the heart of the nearest vampire (there are surely more than one at this affair)

I’m immensely proud of @barb4pgh.bsky.social and @debgrosspgh.bsky.social for stepping up and pushing back against another harmful pro-developer bill being shopped around as a solution to a housing affordability crisis.

It’s unclear to me why, if the intent is to counter the expansion of inclusionary zoning citywide, there’s such urgency to break existing IZ code right now - unless the goal is really to get certain developers exempted from the requirements for projects already in the works.
