I dislike a lot of cozy video games because they are often done from the wrong side; the coffee shop is cozy because the barista is paid to be nice. So much of it is romanticization of the (often underpaid) labour that the developers enjoy using. VA-11 HALL-A gets it right; Coffee Talk doesn't.

The one I find interesting is DragonSword: Awakening, because it was an F2P gacha game in South Korea. The international Steam release is just a one-and-done purchase. Without the play-daily treadmill and gacha mechanics, it ends up feeling somewhere between Genshin and Granblue Fantasy Relink.

This costs like $10 in parts and is dead simple to solder: github.com/jfedor2/hid-... It basically lets you remap anything to anything. Extremely useful for those Taito peripherals, but works for basically everything that can identify itself as a USB device.

I was about to go "it's literally only three clicks" (actions -> the latest one that has a green check -> grab the asset created) but I discovered that's only true if you already have a Github account and are logged in. Discord sucks ass but having people make Github accounts sucks more. You win.

Donkey Kong Country is a beat em up. Original Donkey Kong is a racing game (look at the bonus timer).

So a platformer like Castlevania 1 and also a pinball game like Metroid Prime Pinball. Got it. Does that make Yoku's Island Express the only true metroidvania?

I like using the term "exploratory platformer." There are, however, only three true genres: beat-em-up, shmup, and racing. Metroid is a shmup. Castlevania is a beat-em-up.

QTP with a game that has a 10/10 soundtrack. Remember Me's soundtrack combines a symphonic score with electronic manipulations to distort and transform it, a perfect complement to a game about altering memories. It's also very dynamic, adding and dropping segments to each track as you play.

As a Canadian, I'm fine with "American" being the term for the citizens of that nation since that is the only country to use "America" in their name. That said, I am against video game ROM dumps being called "NHL '94 (USA)" despite them being sold all across North America (and developed in Canada).

Now you have me thinking about my pre-2020 build. I know I sold off the GPU and the PSU, but now I'm trying to recall if I kept the RAM. Memory is so jacked that it might be worth building a computer around my old parts for backup.
