I have been making some really neat UIs lately for work, but I’ve been simultaneously kind of demotivated by the feeling that no one even cares anymore, “Shouldn’t we just be using AI for this? Why do we even need a UI?”

It’s like using cheat codes on a video game when we were younger. At one point this would have been an amazing accomplishment. Now it feels like nothing.

Nothing really makes sense on the Internet anymore in the age of AI. For instance, I’m no longer sure how to even make sense of NPM package download stats. react-resizable-panels now gets almost 40 million weekly downloads. What does that even mean?

A while ago, someone requested react-resizable-panels support 2d "grid" layouts. I'm working on a new set of grid+cell components to support this, with a similar API (in terms of constraints and separator styling at least) github.com/bvaughn/reac...

Wonder how the speed of development will change when/if the hundreds of billions of dollars of investments stop flowing though the few large companies working in this space

Yes for certain Also “we are experiencing longer hold times due to higher call volumes” as a service

Business idea: “We’re updating our terms of service” as a service Every few days I’ll email your users with a ToD update notification, regardless of whether the terms have actually changed, so you don’t have to worry

Physically, I’m OK. My neck and face hurt and I have a headache, but it’s fine. I’m really struggling with anger though. I’m mad that someone would just do something like that and then walk away and I’m kind of mad at myself that I just let them do it I didn’t know if they had a knife or a weapon

Yeah. AI tools are very good at rote tasks like this, which is great because those are the kinds of tasks that drive engineers crazy

They all sound like they were written by an LLM that was pointed at a README and told to write an introductory email thanking the author for the library and how great it was at <random features>, and then offering sponsorship "no strings attached"
010
Brian @bvaughn.me · 21/08/2026
Has anyone else in the OSS community received semi-shady emails from a bunch of (fake?) people in the past week or two, offering to "sponsor" their open source work (but really prompting some kind of blockchain thing)? I've gotten at least 6.

I've gotten dozens of emails this past week from companies about updated terms. Given the current admin, I assume there's some new legally-permissible way for businesses to take advantage of their customers.
