Buzz & Scuttle @buzzandscuttle.bsky.social · 05/05/2025The Stinging Nettle may not be an eye-catching plant, but it’s a home & vital source of food for many insects. If you nurture a nettle patch, these are just a small sample of species which will love living in your garden. #wildgarden #urbanwildlife 0110
Buzz & Scuttle @buzzandscuttle.bsky.social · 04/05/2025Resist the urge to mow your lawn this spring! Surely wildflowers, long, lush green grasses and lots of insects are far more pleasing than short, green turf? #nomowmay #nomowanytime 1319

Buzz & Scuttle @buzzandscuttle.bsky.social · 02/04/2025Dandelions help to fertilise top-soil. Their deep roots bring nutrients to the surface, which helps shallow-rooted plants to thrive. The nectar and pollen of these cheerful native wildflowers are vital food for many early Spring insects. Please don’t weed out these useful flowers! 1366
Buzz & Scuttle @buzzandscuttle.bsky.social · 02/04/2025Don’t rush out & mow you lawn… instead enjoy your beautiful long grass filled with wildflowers … and wildlife will thank you for leaving an important habitat undisturbed! 07322

Cocktails of these chemicals in fields, gardens, parks, verges, community spaces are poisoning wildlife including bees, birds, hedgehogs, butterflies, beetles, frogs, damselflies, and polluting our rivers. Let's give nature a chance 🐝 014143

Buzz & Scuttle @buzzandscuttle.bsky.social · 20/12/2024If you love hedgehogs & would like to see them in your garden, make sure you provide plentiful food for them by nurturing & not eradicating the creatures they love to eat. I always thought hedgehogs eat slugs but have been sent link to research finding hedgehogs only eat slugs when desperate. 13611

Buzz & Scuttle @buzzandscuttle.bsky.social · 18/12/2024Invertebrates may mostly disappear from view during winter but they are still in our gardens hiding from the cold in dead wood, leaf litter, dark nooks & crannies or deep in the soil. Help wildlife thrive by avoiding unnecessary digging, clearing & leaf blowing during winter months. 412836
Buzz & Scuttle @buzzandscuttle.bsky.social · 18/12/2024I had great fun collaging the extraordinary Cramp-ball Fungus Weevil (Platyrhinus resinosus). This well camouflaged weevil looks remarkably like a bit of rotting wood, so is tricky to spot in nooks & crannies of ash wood where cramp-ball fungus is growing. 0291
Reposted by Buzz & ScuttleAsh Whiffin @ashwhiffin.bsky.social · 09/12/2024It’s funny that we call it “dead” wood, when it can support so much life! 🪵🪲🐜🍄 Here’s a video I made earlier in the year, to spread some love for this vital habitat. #Invertebrates #Fungi #Deadwood #Ecology 🧪 1432563
Buzz & Scuttle @buzzandscuttle.bsky.social · 11/12/2024So far I have collaged over 300 UK insects for my Buzz & Scuttle project. The diversity of species is truly extraordinary but most of these amazing creatures go unnoticed by humans who are too busy to stop & look closely at their surroundings. UK wildlife is awesome and desperately needs nurturing! 314735

Buzz & Scuttle @buzzandscuttle.bsky.social · 29/11/2024I have been illustrating insects which can be found buzzing & scuttling around ragwort (this is just a tiny selection). Buzz & Scuttle @buzzandscuttle.bsky.social · 26/11/2024I’m delighted that so many slow worms are living under a dustbin lid in our tiny city centre garden (photo taken at the end of summer) . So pleased that there are enough invertebrates around to keep them fed and thriving! #wildgarden #urbannature #slowworm 1603
Buzz & Scuttle @buzzandscuttle.bsky.social · 26/11/2024I have been nurturing our tiny city centre garden with insects in mind for about 6 years now.. we don’t dig, don’t mow, create lots of ground cover and hiding places: a dead hedge, log piles, compost heap and tiny pond. The number if invertebrates sharing the garden with us is incredible! 1402
Buzz & Scuttle @buzzandscuttle.bsky.social · 26/11/2024Thanks Deb 😀🐞All my insect illustrations are collages. No paint is used. 000
