Argh. 1:50K so no walls! ID'ing the plateau to the left seemed obvious but I couldn't get beyond that without cheating and using 1:25K map AND satellite images. ☹️

Photo location difficult to get accurately, but direct line between #2 and summit puts us near #3. Noted broken down wall in foreground.

Needs "...a complete scheme of renovation and refurbishment which will require a sympathetic eye and a passion for older buildings", and eye-wateringly deep pockets, too!

Worked for me, although entering the phone number was the source of a lot of pain. Needs to be entered as full UK international number (eg 01234 567890 would be +44 1234 567890) - bad UI design (not Russ's fault!)

Probably makes a lot more sense as hardcopy. One way up it's English, flip the document over and it's Welsh.

You're frequenting the wrong bookshops No coffee and incredibly low levels of tat at Rossiter's. Normally they're great at ordering random books in, so I'll prod them more about why they couldn't help when I next drop in. Book wholesaleing is a mystery to me..

We've just got an MY26 XC60, and the software is indeed pants. Set your home address, then say "Navigate Home". It's tried to take me to Home Bargains, Persimmon Homes and a carefully curated selection of care homes.

Probably been asked before, but how's the hardback hting work? Is it print-on-demand, and only available via Amazon? I'm trying to avoid enriching Mr Bezos any more than is strictly neccessary...

Petition: Hold a UK-wide briefing on climate and nature risks

I'll go with BLACK. Islands on lake are on the shore nearest viewer, ruling out red/yellow. The industrial buildings visible directly below trig are missing from blue trig. (usual caveat about maps not reflecting current state of any man-made features!)

Probably intentional to rile the MAGA base who believe we have Sharia law here? "Sent to the UK for extradition" would be a weird turn of phrase anyway.

There's an amazing level of detail in that. All the young lads in the foreground gawping at the camera. Plenty of buildings still recognisable, but many gone. Taken by John Owen, probably 1892! newtowntextilemuseum.co.uk/ws/media-lib...

Having somehow missed out on #Peakyblinders previously, I've just finished watching S1&2 on iPlayer. Bizarrely watching Maj. Campbell's demise just hours before the news of Sam Neill's death came through.

I think we're at cross purposes somewhere 🙃? Contours say it's doing this ⬇️ with the main river flowing towards the viewer. What happens in the far distance is bit of a mystery - looks like the flat area is actually a watershed.
110
Roddy P @butnoidea.co.uk · 09/07/2026
Yes. Easy to get that wrong though: Your brain follows the little stream heading directly down from the viewpoint and automatically assumes all the water is flowing away from the viewer. The angle of the streams joining is a subtle feature. Easy to mistake it for this:
