Being socially anxious and awkward at the function and for some reason my internal mantra of “people will see your fear as vulnerability and try to take advantage of it” doesn’t calm me down at all.

Following along @mzakharuk.bsky.social's reread of @juliaserano.bsky.social's "Whipping Girl". Barely any cis people understand the rampant rape culture inherent to the medical gatekeeping of trans healthcare. These "professionals" know the power they hold over trans people and often abuse it.
> In the 1970s, Suzanne J. Kessler and Wendy McKenna came across several instances in which gatekeepers were rather blatant about this practice: “A clinician during a panel session on transsexualism at the 1974 meeting of the American Psychological Association said that he was more convinced of the femaleness of a male-to-female transsexual if she was particularly beautiful and was capable of evoking in him those feelings that beautiful women generally do. Another clinician told us that he uses his own sexual interest as a criterion for deciding whether a transsexual is really the gender she/he claims.”

Feminism wasn’t popular in the 70s or the 80s, it certainly isn’t popular today. Just like with leftist politics (and especially anarchism), the power-hungry only need as much feminism as they deem fit. We all know how quick people are to abandon principles once they’re comfortably powerful.

Lee Cicuta @butchanarchy.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
I want to leave the logic of electoralism (focused on political conversion, gathering “numbers”) far behind. Anarchists and feminists are in a fight against everything so everything may truly change. We cannot be popular. We only have each other. So then, what can we do together?

Lee Cicuta @butchanarchy.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
With feminism and anarchism both, mass appeal will never be a viable option. We are fighting to change everything and so everything is against us. That doesn’t mean our movements are doomed to fail, not at all, it just means we need to take that asymmetry into account and strategize accordingly.

Lee Cicuta @butchanarchy.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
I don’t care about changing men’s hearts or making them into feminists. I think serious attempts to do so are doomed to cooptation or failure. We cannot convince men to care about women and we don’t need to. The asymmetry in power is a given, so meaningful feminist action must be insurgent.

you could probably push back against this effectively by saying that people with mental illnesses also deserve bodily autonomy but that would require more people to not be fucking ableist

Power seeks to classify everybody who doesn't act according to its whims as mad because we have all accepted that mad people don't get to have bodily autonomy or freedom.

I think every victim of intimate violence should get to tell as much of their story as they want to. It’s just hard to see how often their stories are not received or treated with the care they deserve. How often this replicates and exacerbates the exposure and loss of autonomy of intimate violence.

Just read an article about a survivor of a sexual assault that gave a moment-by-moment graphic description of the assault itself in the text. This shit isn’t raising awareness, it’s another part of rape culture. Its target audience is everyone but other victims, who it unnecessarily triggers.

An element of publicly agitating against intimate violence that’s hard and painful to manage is that no matter how carefully you communicate your story or feminist perspective, you’re doing so in a media environment that relates to intimate violence exclusively on its value as entertainment content.

Anyway it feels important to me to remind people of the context that my work comes from, a very highly disabled one. It feels important to me that people who like my work know that writing is an activity that also flares me. Not out of pity, just, yeah, know the cost is different for me.

With all my other painful body parts and even my hip injury I can sometimes find a position that will give them a little relief and quiet them in my awareness but there’s never been a single thing in these 8 years that will relieve my jaw. It’s just vicious screaming pain all the time there.

Love to 2019 me though bc even though TMJ was my first chronic pain symptom it continues to be (despite all the competition) one of the worst pains I have. Debilitating then, debilitating now. At this point, after so much intervention, I’m pretty sure “fixing it” is never going to be an option.

Lee Cicuta @butchanarchy.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
I haven’t been pain free since 2018. That’s really wild to think about. The pain of 2019 I thought, at the time, would make life completely unlivable if it wasn’t fixed immediately is still here and now is a fraction of the chronic pain I have to deal with now. And here I am, still living!

I don’t post about it as much as I did because I’ve come to a steadier place of acceptance about it but I have been in so much physical pain 24/7 for coming on 8 years now, with each year having more pain and less capacity than the last. It’s a total monster to learn to cope with.

My theory *is* very influenced by my practice and vice versa but that’s not something you can truly know by following me or any other theorist on social media. You can only hope your faves are people who share your values and then react appropriately when some inevitably show that they aren’t.

Lee Cicuta @butchanarchy.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
I think this gets especially tricky to remember when the creative has made their name on articulating political values. People assume that if you’re skilled at articulating theory, you’re just as skilled (and dedicated) to applying it in your life.
1616
Lee Cicuta @butchanarchy.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Mostly what you know about me and any creative you follow online is that we’ve been successful in building a public persona that people regularly engage with. Maybe some of us are also skilled at our craft. None of that tells you anything about someone’s true values.
1584
Lee Cicuta @butchanarchy.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
This applies to me, too. I do my best to apply the ethics and analysis I articulate on this platform in my personal life, but unless you are part of that personal life you can only take my word for that and you can’t know what that actually looks like for me.
1635
Lee Cicuta @butchanarchy.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
The creatives you engage with online are strangers to you and it is really important to remember that. Someone can be skilled at articulating a position that appeals to you without being a good person. Knowing someone’s work is not the same as knowing their heart or how they treat people.

Most of the talk about forgiveness and restoration is really about convenience. You don't want the hassle of kicking the sex pest out of your spaces, you don't want the Inconvenience of having to find a new video games youtuber to watch, so the onus is placed on people who have been hurt to forgive.
