Industry newsletters are great. "Destroy the ocean? Maybe!"
An Engineers Australia newsletter titled "Should we mine the seabed?". Subtitle is "The seabed could solve the mineral crisis". Banner image is a miner on a boat poised to reap the ocean for all its natural splendor.

There's something extremely on the nose about this butcher using an AI generated banner on an old office building in the middle of the CBD, kilometers away from any grocery store.
Daylight photograph of a two story glass office building. Above the main entrance is an AI generated sign for "BLATCHY'S". It is a dirt-brown pallette with a pig on the right and a cow on the left. The cow's horn wraps around the logo in a way that does not look intentional. The ground floor windows are plastered with A4 printouts of more AI generated imagery.

I knew I had a photo of this saved somewhere. I'm sure the burrito ad is fake, but there are people out there who genuinely do not care what the AI image looks like and will gladly print out a giant banner proving it.

Incredible website. I feel like I could read the prompt that made this site if only the buttons weren't hiding it...
Screenshot from the Kaiju Engine's website. It is a dark-mode sci-fi website with awful CSS issues causing elements to overlap. It is not immediately apparent why it exists.

In the future computers will be half as useful and 10,000 times more expensive.

When it rains, it pours! Got most of the WebGPU compatible examples from the Wgpu repo working now, same link for the demos. This water example in particular makes me very happy. Now I guess I need to find out how hard it'd be to make a custom Wgpu backend for something like the PS1...
Screenshot of a webpage. The top quarter is a banner with several links to examples named "boids", "cube", "mipmaps", "msaa_line", "multiple_render_targets", "shadow", "srgb_blend", "stencil_triangles", and "water". The lower 3 quarters of the screen is a low-poly mountain range with water flowing in gullies.

It's ugly and probably busted, but I have PRs open which add no_std support to Wgpu and Winit, which lets the following demo work on wasm32v1-none. bushrat011899.github.io/wasm32v1-non... The code shamelessly adapted from Wgpu and Winit's examples can be found at github.com/bushrat01189...

Extremely WIP, but I've got the latest version of @repebble.com's SDK working reasonably well with Cargo. LSP support and properly representing dependencies in WafLib elude me, but a call to `pebble build` properly invokes cargo, passing C flags for SDK bindgen, and compiles for all platforms.

Ok so I complain about Netflix subtitles a lot, and I also hate auto playing videos. Truly incredible I get to have both thrown at me for having the nerve to open the app. Probably the worst case of broken subtitles to date.

No seriously this story was terrifying! This wasn't just one massive whoopsie, they just blindly and repeatedly charged through like a bull in a China shop. Beth Mole wrote a great summary of the story: arstechnica.com/health/2026/...
Shaknovsky switched to an invasive surgery, opening Bryan’s abdominal cavity. OR staff told health department investigators that Bryan’s colon “burst out” when Shaknovsky cut open the cavity, and they had to rush in to move the colon out of the way and suction blood. Shaknovsky then found the blood vessel he wanted to cut and noted to staff that he could feel it pulsing under his fingers. “That’s scary,” he reportedly said to the staff member assisting him.

Shaknovsky then grabbed a surgical stapler, situated it around the vessel, and fired. Bryan immediately began severely hemorrhaging and went into cardiac arrest. Staff reported a significant amount of blood started pouring out, and they began the emergency blood transfusion protocol, then called a code, and began CPR. Shaknovsky, meanwhile, kept working in the abdomen, which was filled with a pool of blood. Despite not being able to see what he was doing, he did not ask staff for a clamp or cauterizer. Instead, Shaknovsky blindly fired another staple into Bryan’s abdomen and kept working.

After a while, the staff was unable to resuscitate Bryan, and he was pronounced dead. Shaknovsky extracted an organ he called Bryan’s spleen and put it on a table. Staff reportedly looked at the readily identifiable liver in shock. One reported feeling sick to their stomach.

Like clockwork, an ad for an "AI OS that compiles Rust to Wasm", posted 2 minutes ago. It's exhausting sifting through all this sand...
r/rust post made 2 minutes ago for a project named pneuma. The post complains about being removed previously due to use of AI generated content in the body of the post itself, and reads as an ad for the paid services they are providing.

Oh yeah awesome, replacing the your account button in the GitHub app with a copilot button is totally not a dark pattern to trick a handful of extra engagements this month. Please can the bubble burst already so that people who actually use LLMs can just go do that on their own?

Was watching a CppCon on C++20 modules and how great they are today. While I don't disagree with the benefits modules might bring, it's very telling that once you scroll past the CppCon videos on modules coming soon, YouTube offers years old videos with zero views.
A screenshot from YouTube search results for the phrase "C++ modules", where the top two results are videos from 4 years and 10 months ago respectively, each with exactly zero views.

Not to bully the author of this particular video, but I never understood the reverence some people hold for JBlow. Progenitor of Linux, Git, etc. and father of real-time 3D graphics, vs guy who made two games and half a mid language.

The tech sector makes a lot more sense when you remember it's a bunch of young capitalists who never studied ethics, philosophy, history, or anything else that would've helped them reflect on their own humanity.

Family computer was an iMac. Valve porting L4D2 to OSX made it _the_ game for my brother and I for literally an entire year. Was so fun we did the exact same thing with Portal 2. After that, I got a prepaid credit card so we could buy games with our own pocket money.

Been working on `no_std` support for the #bevy game engine. It might not look like much, but here's a Bevy game compiled for the GameBoy Advance running in an emulator on an Android phone! The next release (0.16) will include this support for everyone! #gamedev

Condolences. My fiance and I got our first dog together, Sunny, as a puppy. He's 8 months old now, and I see the same happy smile Malcolm has here all the time. Here's our boy, enjoying a frozen cucumber on the couch with us.
