Busayo @busayo.bsky.social · 05/09/2026Dolly, Dolly. Her recent passing was so sad. I listened to her 2020 memoir back in July and was so happy to learn (again) how some of my favourite songs were made. Only Dolly would make an autobiography, but do it wrapped around her lyrics and musicianship. I'll always love that. 000
Busayo @busayo.bsky.social · 05/09/2026John Green's collection of essays brought back my old appreciation for a good non-fiction piece I love how unafraid he is to write about the most far-out and non-mainstream things that catch his interest And, I learnt a lot about trees (and Hailey's comet) in this book. So, it was a big win! 100
Busayo @busayo.bsky.social · 05/09/2026I'm not sure why it took weeks to get through the first 100 pages of this book, but the rest of it flew by in days! It's an incredible story about triumph and redemption in a Rastafari family in Jamaica. Sinclair really showed that she was a poet with this work. Enjoyed it, as I knew I would. 100
Busayo @busayo.bsky.social · 18/08/2026John Steinbeck's "East of Eden" You know, this book is an amazing exploration of the human condition. I loved the play on the story of the garden of Eden, Cain and Abel showing up in an interesting way It's amazing narratively (But it had slurs that made me uncomfortable, and that is something 😐) 110
Busayo @busayo.bsky.social · 18/08/2026Time to update the list with the books I've been reading 😊 010

Busayo @busayo.bsky.social · 31/07/2026It's been raining a lot So, I wrote a blog post about rain and about the seasons changing And about it being five years since I started writing on my blog! Been a while since I wrote something so metaphorical. It felt good, like a weight lifted off me Felt lighter & looser Was truly born to write 110

Busayo @busayo.bsky.social · 15/07/2026Kaver Akbar's "Martyr!" Finished this one a few months ago. It was one of those slow reads, but it got interesting towards the end. Got to see a lot about a man navigating a unique cultural identity while trying to find a place in the world (and in death?) The twist at the end was something! 110
Busayo @busayo.bsky.social · 09/07/2026I still think about the ending of Arundhati Roy's "Mother Mary Comes To Me" from time to time... 000
Busayo @busayo.bsky.social · 09/07/2026The plan is to somehow finish Seishi Yokomizo's 6-part series in the next few months. I love it when a translation is done in a way that makes it a simple, easy to follow read. Didn't get into Japanese art from Manga or anime. But I guess a 6-part mystery series has roped me in 😄 000
Busayo @busayo.bsky.social · 09/07/2026This book took me almost a month to read, which is odd because it really had my attention at the beginning, but the middle meandered a bit. But that ending, wow! What a surprise. It's a good read in summary. Decided to read it after loving the author's recent short story in the Paris Review. 110
Busayo @busayo.bsky.social · 09/07/2026Finished this book in a rush as I wanted to hurry and see the end! Oddly, this contained two completely different stories, and I preferred the second. Still... reading about 20th century Japanese murder mysteries is cooler than I thought. Definitely a big fan of this (new to me) author! 110
Busayo @busayo.bsky.social · 05/07/2026Can't wait to read through the winning stories. This list is always full of beauties! 010
Busayo @busayo.bsky.social · 05/07/2026Finally finished reading (listening to!) Toni Morrison's "Tar Baby." Started slow, but got very interesting at the halfway point. Some of the references to the folktale the story loosely references were lost on me till I finished and started reading reviews. Will be thinking about it for a while 130
Busayo @busayo.bsky.social · 05/07/2026I've been reading a lot more consistently since March. Averaging about 5 books or so a month, and I think it's a great idea to start one of those fun threads where you post the books you've been reading. So, here we go. (And, I am very open to book recommendations!) 120
