The plan is to somehow finish Seishi Yokomizo's 6-part series in the next few months. I love it when a translation is done in a way that makes it a simple, easy to follow read. Didn't get into Japanese art from Manga or anime. But I guess a 6-part mystery series has roped me in 😄

I've been reading a lot more consistently since March. Averaging about 5 books or so a month, and I think it's a great idea to start one of those fun threads where you post the books you've been reading. So, here we go. (And, I am very open to book recommendations!)

Augur Society | Augur Issue 8.3 is NOW LIVE ! @augursociety.bsky.social · 24/02/2026
"The Belly of the Rock” by @busayo.bsky.social is a story of ancestry and the bond between a mother and daughter. Read it here 👉 augursociety.org/the-belly-of...
An illustration of two black womam wearing standing with their backs against each other. One of the women has her hair braided and pulled back, looking down and wearing gold earrings and a white and pink garment. The other woman has her hair braided and pulled back, wearing a beaded necklace and gold earrings, and a blue garment. The background is black with magical swirls coloured in purple, pink, and blue. There is a quotation mark in pink, and beside it reads: “Augur Magazine 8.1” in white text and beside it is a white square outline. Below is a white box and inside it reads: “For the few centuries after the Egba wars, the courtyard around the rock has been the place where people have come to drop a libation, a prayer. To exchange something they cared about for a thing they deeply needed.” in black text. Underneath is the cover of Augur Issue 8.1, and beside it is a white rectangle that reads inside: “The Belly of the Rock, Busayo Akinmoju” in purple text. At the bottom of the image reads: “Read for free at augursociety.org/the-belly-of-the-rock” in white text.

Revisiting Taiye Selasi's short stories and I am newly wowed by them. The way she bends language, the symmetry of her story telling, the quiet building and layering of emotion. It reminded me of just how beautiful literature is. Really needed that.
