The problem that demand for their electric models is higher than expected is something many car manufacturers have in common.

In September, the world’s largest car market continued a clear trend: 67% of new cars have a plug (47% battery electric and 20% plug-in hybrid). That’s huge. Or, as they say in Berlin, it's still a multi-million market for cars with combustion engines […]

What if the secret plan is to make you happy and the world a better place? Electrification is a happiness machine - at least for Germans. 94.9% of Germans with a heat pump report (great) satisfaction. Similarly, 97% of Germans driving an electric vehicle report (great) satisfaction. They also choose an EV for more 'Fahrvergnügen' (driving pleasure). Perhaps this is a key reason why some German politicians and media are so strongly opposed to heat pumps and electric vehicles: outrage and discontent sell more tabloids, fill more talk shows, and may appear to mobilise voters. But what if the bureaucrats with their 'Verbrenner-Aus' and the 'Heizhammer' demon actually had humanity's best interests at heart? “As climate and nature risks increasingly affect productivity, growth, inflation and the resilience of the financial system, taking them into account falls squarely within our mandate.” www.ecb.europa.eu//press/key/date/2…
The case for the green transition is therefore no longer solely an environmental one. It is also very much a competitiveness, resilience and security argument. By reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels, a more electrified, renewables-based energy system strengthens strategic autonomy, makes the economy better able to absorb shocks and reduces exposure to energy price volatility, which may also, through indirect and second-round effects, affect headline inflation over time.
