In the future, British EV drivers will be able to use their own electricity contract at on-street public EV charging points. This 'bring-your-own-power' approach will make public charging more affordable and integrate it with the energy system […] [Original post on mastodon.social]
3.16 In addition, the government welcomes the publication alongside the Budget

of Philip New's independent review of the cost of charging electric vehicles (EVs)

on the public network. The government is taking immediate steps to establish

a taskforce to explore allowing drivers to use their domestic electricity tariff at

local, lower-powered public charge points. This is a complex proposal that will

take time to consider, so the government is also announcing £100 million over

the next two years to reduce costs for local, lower-powered public chargers.

Coming into effect from Spring 2027, this is expected to save the average EV driver

without home charging and who charges on-street around £150 per year! The

Department for Transport (DfT) will set out next steps in due course.

Germany finds itself on the losing side when it comes to watering down CO₂ targets, but on the winning side when it comes to greater ambition. Less hobby horses and culture wars, more electric cars and jobs. It seems to be a difficult choice.
Projected job growth under the Policy Action scenario relative to the Current Standards (baseline) scenario show approx. 90,000 jobs gained in Germany.Projected job losses under the Delayed Standards scenario relative to the Current Standards (baseline) scenario show approx. 75,000 jobs lost in Germany.

“As climate and nature risks increasingly affect productivity, growth, inflation and the resilience of the financial system, taking them into account falls squarely within our mandate.” www.ecb.europa.eu//press/key/date/2…
The case for the green transition is therefore no longer solely an environmental one. It is also very much a competitiveness, resilience and security argument. By reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels, a more electrified, renewables-based energy system strengthens strategic autonomy, makes the economy better able to absorb shocks and reduces exposure to energy price volatility, which may also, through indirect and second-round effects, affect headline inflation over time.

Car manufacturers are no longer obliged to use green steel as redemption for combustion-engine cars, is the German-France proposal. Instead, rail (!!) will have to compensate! […] [Original post on mastodon.social]
It was important to me that we also use this opportunity to make progress on climate and industrial policy for the steel industry. The steel industry is a key sector for the successful transition of our industry towards climate neutrality. There should be incentives to ensure that cars are built using climate-friendly green steel in future. Furthermore, we want to promote the use of green and recycled steel at national level through public procurement. Over the next few years, the railways in Germany will be laying new tracks on a large scale. We will ensure that a growing proportion of these tracks are made from green and recycled steel. This brings significant added value for the climate and helps the industry with its transition."

The Franco-German deal scraps the latter requirement, stating that residual emissions should not have to be compensated by manufacturers. It also opens the door for cars running on renewable fuels to count as "zero-emission" and makes it much easier for automakers to reach CO2 targets.
So-called "super credits" the commission had suggested carmakers would benefit from for small "affordable" electric cars are extended to all vehicles "irrespective of their size or length."

bovengenoemde reboundrisico kwantitatief onderzocht.
Stuurgroep (twee seizoenen, maximaal vier tariefhoogten per seizoen, maximaal vijf tijdblokken)
rekening mee gehouden.
100 1
Jaap Burger @burger-jaap.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 09/10/2026

‘Laddfattigdom' or 'charging poverty’ In Sweden, too, there is growing awareness of the inequality between those who can charge their EV at home (low costs, reliability, time savings) and those who are dependent on public charging infrastructure […] [Original post on mastodon.social]
Five dimensions of energy poverty
    • Financial aspect: Significant price differences between home charging and public charging hit those without their own charging point particularly hard.
    • Spatial (geographical) dimension: The charging infrastructure is unevenly distributed and is often rolled out in areas where early adopters and affluent residents live, rather than in line with future needs.
    • Functional dimension: Faulty charging points, limited operating hours and long waiting times for grid connection cause operational problems.
    • Temporal dimension (time): Time lost in queues, detours to find charging points and slow charging result in wasted time and stress.
    • Digital dimension: The need for brand-specific apps, poor roaming coverage and complicated payment systems that do not support card payments are excluding users.

More than half of Swedish applications for the EV grant are rejected: are the criteria too confusing? (Or, at the risk of being pelted with kanelbullar: do Swedes only understand things if they’re explained step by step using simple pictograms, as with the national furniture giant?)
Majority denied electric car subsidy: “Unreasonably complicated”

EconomyTens of thousands of Swedes have applied for the electric car grant, which was launched six months ago. However, more than half have had their applications rejected by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency.
“It’s very complicated and extremely difficult to get an immediate idea of whether you’re eligible for the grant,” says Carl-Erik Stjernvall, a technical expert at M Sverige. Of the 22,782 applications submitted to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, 9,697 have been approved, according to statistics as at 20 September.

Factors such as household income, the number of children, share sales, home address and the price of the car all affect whether you are eligible for the benefit.

“They’re completely missing the point here,” says Stjernvall, describing the criteria as “unreasonably complicated”.

“It’s a cause for concern that the group which has been designated as eligible to apply for this support is not the same group that generally buys cars that are a few years old and cost perhaps several hundred thousand kronor,” he says.
Shortage of cars

Market supply also has an impact.
