The real-world political economists who post through these vicious divides are members of an elite squad known as the Double Consciousness Dealers. These are their posts.

A great weekend for meeting with residents and collecting petition signatures to get on the ballot for April 6! I've collected 635 signatures, meeting the minimum required to get on the ballot. I'll keep going and turn in the maximum allowed. Thank you to all my petition gathering volunteers!

they are ascetic practices, + serve the same functions of daily meaning making. what's remarkable about them is how unconnected practice is to larger questions. GTD will help you get things done in your life, but will not really help you think about what you should aim your life at.

Forest Gregg @bunkum.us · 28/09/2026
it obviously can, as centuries of american religion show richly shows. it is still suprising how worldly so much religion is.

i was thinking more about the aesthete or cultured person as one of the models of what a life could be. interesting that there is not *more* antipathy between the self-management world view and religion.
110
Forest Gregg @bunkum.us · 28/09/2026
perhaps this is one reason for the antipathy to the humanities, because it is sometimes provides a remnant for a different vision of what it means to become a better (or at least more interesting) person.
151
Forest Gregg @bunkum.us · 28/09/2026
i think these are sharp points, but also all the nearly all the mainstream, secular, contemporary models of self-cultivation claim that the path to being a better person is one of optimization and self-management.

as the parent of older children, it actually takes a lot of strength of will to not ask to hold the newborn babies of distant acquaintances, and i should be getting some form of recognition for that self control.
