I love how Satya Nadella has avoided using both Artificial Intelligence and Superinterlligence when announcing something related to AI. 😂

Satya Nadella, chairman and CEO at Microsoft posted the following on their LinkedIn account:

Today we are announcing our biggest bet yet on our own silicon.
Starting next calendar year, we will scale our Maia family to multi-gigawatt deployments, making it the primary inference system for our own product and services.
And we're introducing Maia 300, which delivers 40% more tokens per watt compared to leading GPU-based systems.
We are already deploying Maia 200 across the US, Europe, and Australia, delivering up to 1.7x more tokens per watt across experiences in Teams and Copilot.

Apple is set to introduce a new MacBook Pro with a touchscreen and an updated iPad Mini "on or around" October 27th, Bloomberg reports. If true, that would put the event just two weeks after the October 13th event Apple announced today, which is rumored to focus on smart home products.
Bloomberg says that the late October event will include an "online video presentation" and an "in-person component for the press," which it reports is similar to what Apple is planning for the October 13th event.
At this Mac and iPad event, Bloomberg reports that Apple will announce new MacBook Pros that are lighter than what's available now, have touchscreen OLED displays, and iPhone-like Dynamic Island interfaces. Apple is also apparently planning to announce MacBook Pros that retain the current design but have the M6 chip introduced with the new Mac Mini. And the iPad Mini, which was last refreshed in 2024, will be updated to shift the front-facing camera onto the landscape side of the tablet and to add a
"revamped speaker system," Bloomberg says.

It's also the nature of the agent automation to feel more like delegation to a clueless junior developer than automation, and that changes your relationship to the work.
In woodworking, the power tools didn't reduce the woodworker's emotional investment in what they made. The worker still felt like they'd made that thing out of wood themselves.
Some woodworkers might still use hand tools for a variety of reasons - some of them romantic, some of them, you know, just because it's more fun.
But having a table saw doesn't make you feel like you've asked somebody else to make the shelf, or table, or chair.

The nature of automation with Large Language Model tools feels substantially different from prior attempts at automation in coding. It's an abstraction that feels like a delegation, not an automation, and separates you from the output.
That has an effect of making you feel less invested in the output and that takes away much the joy of coding. The flow state is also gone, the sort of focused state of mind that you get into when you're really deep into solving a problem.
On top of the changes to the job itself, the industry itself has changed as well.
There is more uncertainty. People know there are layoffs every quarter. They know they're probably next on the block. Or, if they aren't, they'll be on the block next quarter instead. They know the reasons for dismissal are going to be arbitrary. They know they generally aren't going to be able to do anything to improve their odds.

I just do not see excitement there. The only thing of note they have added to Windows in the last five years is Copilot, and I have yet to meet a normal human being who enjoys using it. And all the Windows 11 changes seem to have just gone over about as well as a lead balloon. I just do not think they care at all about Windows with consumers.
