Final Fantasy 15 is... Confusing. Combat feels clumsy even after 8 hours in, story feels classicly Final Fantasy, as in, I'm not sure what's actually going on. Via PS4 physical on PS5, let's see if I can finish it

Finished in about 7 hours, played amazing on Steam Deck. How can one game ooze so much creativity. Man, it really worms into your brain. Must play game, great work

About 4 hours into NORCO, what a work of art. The writing, world building, and art ... Looking forward to letting the story continue to unfold. I have a lot of questions...

Ok, considering a revisit of d4 as a "completion" this year. Season 15, warlock, did the campaigns got about halfway through seasonal journey. Very addicting gameplay loop , the environments are amazing. Played a bit of paladin as well. All via steam deck , about 50 hours 🫣

Muted quandrant. The 4 screenshot better represents gameS to me

i feel like the generic name (and in a sense, setting) didn't help the marketing. really impressive game

Oh shit, chapter 11 got some hands. Finished in 25 hours. Actually really good game, fun world great bosses, did a technique build. Might do some achievement hunting ... Is the dlc any good?

Knocked out Moonlighter in about 17 hours. Great art, a little repetitive, felt like a less interesting save the diver (I know it's earlier), but overall a fun roguelite game

Game looks WAY better in quality over performance on PS5. In a souls like game I don't seem to mind the 30ish fps as much. Game is solid, quite fun. I hear there is a difficulty curve coming later I'm a bit scared of

Next up, Lies of P! It's for sure a soulslike; lots of unique charm so far

Finished in about 14 hours. Fuck this is heavy. I feel like I got a decent ending, spending my prison time and letting Daniel have a normal'ish life in the US. He got to hang out with Chris and his friends and that's what he wanted 😭

Working through Life is Strange 2 (plus the awesome adventures of Captain Spirit). Shits heavy, but incredibly written characters. About 4 hours in, and I think I'm making too many rules for Daniel

Starting my first Switch 2 game, Starfox. Definitely nostalgic. Did the Alt run first on normal through Venom 2. Actually kinda tough dog fight. Will continue to grind some medals!

Finished Ghost of Yotei in about 40 hours, did a good amount of side stuff. Honestly on par with the first game, felt a lot like Tsushima+ mode. More and better of the same?

That customer experience seems SO important today. to stand out in a competitive industry (mobile, PC, handhelds, Xbox, Nintendo etc). Why not lean into what makes your brand unique? Give the customer a premium experience? Make physical that premium experience

buffalosteve.bsky.social @buffalosteve.bsky.social · 01/08/2026
Yeah what's the plan here? It feels oddly challenging to see the direction from Sony here. Sony is not operating in a vacuum, they have stiff competition on multiple fronts. I can't really see where they are going, what's their identity

I hope you're right, but my hypothesis doesn't match

buffalosteve.bsky.social @buffalosteve.bsky.social · 31/07/2026
Sony will lose some customers dropping physical, no doubt. It's clear Sony is fine with it

buffalosteve.bsky.social @buffalosteve.bsky.social · 31/07/2026
To be clear I'm a physical game collector, and super disappointed about Sony's directions. But Fifa fans are probably some of their favorite, low dev costs to basically sell the same game every year. Lots of dlc purchases lol.

Read again, my hypothesis is that Sony needs/wants Profit%, not revenue
100
buffalosteve.bsky.social @buffalosteve.bsky.social · 31/07/2026
It's clear Sony is completely OK losing some customers, aka revenue. To improve profits % overall. They are eyeing those Steam profits and super jelly

Sound design alone in that game is enough to hook me in. What a neat experience

About 15 hours into Ghost of Yotei; no shortage of beautiful views. At first it felt almost too similar to Tsushima, but the game is just crazy fun. Time just disappears, even though it feels a lot like he original I'm not sure that's a bad thing. Via ps5 physical

buffalosteve.bsky.social @buffalosteve.bsky.social · 23/07/2026
No bad products, only bad pricing? Why wouldn't Sony lean into the passionate fans and give them a premium, higher priced experience to make up for the reduced margin of physical vs digital? Like, why just bail on it? still seems so puzzling to me
000
buffalosteve.bsky.social @buffalosteve.bsky.social · 23/07/2026
I believe they still plan to have retail boxes, but with digital codes. I hate it, but they may still keep some real estate at best buy / target etc.
000
buffalosteve.bsky.social @buffalosteve.bsky.social · 21/07/2026
I mean, sometimes the disc is "done" as in complete, not that doesitplay is necessarily doing preservation; Agree that ultra long term preservation of game code requires a digital only backup; But I think we have a few decades, ps1s are still kicking after 30 years; all of this work helps

buffalosteve.bsky.social @buffalosteve.bsky.social · 19/07/2026
Taking choice away from your customers isnt a path to growth. Sony seems completely ok with shrinking revenue, but growing margin. It's a bummer, if you take too much of your product / experience away you're left with very little product left. In this case, the ps6 turns into a PC Skin

Finished the Magnificent Trufflepigs Via Steak deck, in about 2 hours. A tad underwhelming in both gameplay and story, but a cute idea. Coming from someone who loved firewatch, what remains of Edith Finch, and gone home too. But overall cute cozy walking sim

Finished The Pale Beyond via Steam Deck in about 8 hours. What a fun story, not sure what this gameplay style is called but I love it and the resource management and story driven nature. Great cozy game, and really impactful crew mates

I think these are more of a side grade to buds2, they are basically original buds1 with some slightly updated internals. Buds3 / 4 will be a much bigger update, the stems are much more comfortable in my ears

Without physical, With PC working hard on the "couch experience" via SteamOS and the new Windows Xbox mode, PlayStation seems like a hard sell. I'm guessing they are going to double down on exclusives, but there are so many good games who cares

Finished all 3 games in the legendary edition in about 63 hours. Fem shep renegade was really fun, The illusive man's comment at the end regarding the reapers "why kill when you can control" rings so true in 2026

Roughly 66% of PS5 titles don't require a download, thise are complete on disc. Per researchers at doesitplay.org. it's nuanced but, that number goes up if you're willing to deal with a few bugs. The rest require cloud downloads

Was kind of hoping someone could buy the Sony equipment, and make money publishing physical games a la limited run. Then I realized Sony owns the blu ray rights, and probably has legal authority to actively destroy all the equipment

Yes and no, some games are complete on disc, or at least very playable. @doesitplay.org does the research

I appreciate this optimistic view that human society will outlast the life of all PS5 consoles, but ... We've got at least 40 years for PS5 in the wild probably much much longer.
