So what are you going to do about it?! This reminds me of Johnson & Covid. A national emergency & here comes our PM with no mention of climate change, or how we need to tackle the risks. Nope. The onus is apparently on us to watch for risks. No leadership. Absolute sham @andyburnham.bsky.social

@goodlawproject.org I have tagged you on Facebook into the original post, but I think this might need investigating. I'm worried they're about to use this kind of information to strip away further rights for trans people.
Screenshot reads: ...

Fightback.

The Timms Review has released its "Workshop in a Box" toolkit to organisations to help them hold events at their cost and to gather views from disabled people about the future of Personal Independence Payment (PIP).

We've looked at the questionnaire and were surprised by the emphasis on questions about age, ethnicity, gender identity and sexual orientation before getting to the issues that really matter to disabled people.

If the Government is reviewing PIP, shouldn't they be asking questions such as:Screenshot reads:
What do you actually use PIP for?

Would you be able to stay in work without it?

How would losing PIP affect your independence?

Does PIP help pay for transport, care, equipment, heating or support?

What do you think about proposals to change eligibility?

Should PIP ever be means tested?

What are your experiences of the assessment process?Screenshot with a link at the end reads:

Demographic information may have its place, but many disabled people will be wondering why there appears to be more focus on who they are than on how PIP affects their daily lives.

What do you think?

If you receive PIP, support someone who does, or work with disabled people, what are the questions you believe the Government should be asking as part of this review?

We'd love to hear your views below.

Shropshire, by finally taking flags down & looking to get costs back off the offenders (plus prosecute if other offences are proven) has them in a tailspin here. It's glorious to watch as they've realised they're on the hook for a big nasty bill. Also, they're lying ref state of flags (1/2)
A group which has hung hundreds of UK and England flags in Shrewsbury is begging a council to let them take them down after being told they could face a costly bill.

Raise The Flags Shrewsbury Plus has adorned Union Jacks and St Georges crosses on lamp posts all over the county town as part of a controversial project, which they claim is about patriotism and protesting against the Labour government. The authority said it cost £13,000 in taxpayer money to remove flags damaged during Storm Amy.

Raise The Flags Shrewsbury Plus has claimed responsibility for the vast majority of flags in the town and surrounding villages, including in Meole Brace, Herongate, Monkmoor, Harlescott, Sundorne, Hanwood, Ford, Montford Bridge, Shrawardine, Coton Hill, Sutton Farm and Yockleton, as well as on major roads such as Telford Way, London Road and Old Potts Way.Now the group is urging the council to allow them to remove the flags themselves to "save the taxpayer" having to stump up the cost.

As of April 15 at 10am, Raise The Flags Shrewsbury Plus has more than £6,800 in its kitty from public donations, according to its GoFundMe page.In a post on social media, a spokesperson for Raise The Flags Shrewsbury Plus said: "We will publicly now put this out to Shropshire Council! We are happy to remove all flags from council run areas as you will be costing the tax payer a lot of money.

"We do not want anyone paying £13,000, let alone the taxpayer!

Cat litter. After 100+ cats in the family over 6 decades (literally no exaggeration) the best one for odour control, ease of cleaning etc is this one. The main downside is it can track easily from a litter box, but we just use a cheap litter mat in front and it does catch most of it.

I was fortunate enough to do a dig here in the early 1980s. Our tents were on the field where the replica villa was built. You literally had to move pottery shards off the ground to pitch them! It's a fascinating site, and you really do struggle to get a sense of it's scale, even with what's left.

Given what x are doing to harm children with Grok, any chance of some links on other platforms to share please?

08:43

I agree with

08:54

As do I

09:02

As some of us have requested since Musk went all fascist, rather than x, our Government should start using another platform (such as Facebook (where most of our constituents are), etc) as its main platform. That would really help to move the dial and show direction to others in the UK.

If Trump can ignore other platforms and use his own different Truth Social as the main one, what's stopping us?

09:06

Agree with all above statements. Furthermore, any images of children (and women) in government comms on X put those children in harms way.

09:09

Replies

Me too, we deleted our X last year.

09:10

These are great announcements, so please can we have links to share where our constituents are and are safe please? Bluesky, insta, threads, FB and ideally never X but definitely not for announcements re: children or VAWG.

09:31

Absolutely agree we need to be putting our messages out in other places. X is worse than ever, especially for women

The Seaglass Blade by @jcsnow.bsky.social just arrived, and I couldn't be happier. I'm nearing the end of a book, and this just jumped right to the top of my reading list. It's a gorgeous cover as well. 📚🌈
The lower half of the cover is filled with dark blue ocean waves crashing against the land with a single storey building framing centrally. Numerous small jellyfish-like creatures, float in the water.
Above, a vibrant orange/red depiction of what looks like either a phoenix, or perhaps a heavily stylised dragon, appears to strike out of the waves, bearing down towards the building. Since a phoenix and dragon are both mentioned in the synopsis on the back cover, either is likely. I do however think it is a phoenix.
The cover is vivid and striking.
The author's name, "J.C. SNOW," is at the very top, and the title, "THE SEAGLASS BLADE," is prominently displayed in a stylized silver, almost opaque font in the lower section of the cover. The back of the book shows the following text:
Aili Fallon, the world's last human cultivator of spiritual power, has spent three hundred years of her unexpected immortality building a safe place for all those she loves her phoenix lover, Chenguang; their dragon son and renegade demon daughter; and the sea creatures, birds, otters, and foxes who learn the sword and cultivate human forms. She's determined to protect them from human captivity and demonic corruption.

But Aili can't keep them safe forever. The patterns of the natural world, the source of spiritual power, are inexplicably failing. When Chenguang is attacked, her phoenix healing disappears. A curse killing dragons targets their son, while demonic power threatens to destroy their daughter. And among the trusted spiritual creatures, a traitor is waiting.

Piece by piece, a long-laid plot of vengeance and cruelty is tightening around Aili and her family. She'll risk everything she's built, and everything she is, to protect them.

Everything may not be enough.

***

J.C. SNOW is a fantasy author as well as an award-winning historian. She is the author of The Phoenix and the Sword and The Shoreless River, a queer fantasy duology in the same world as The Seaglass Blade. When not writing, she's exploring the world with her wife and child, with a home base in the Bay Area and constant inspiration from the beauty of Northern California.

Dear Secretary of State,

Re: Local government funding settlement

I am writing to express my deep shock and disappointment about the funding settlement for Shropshire announced yesterday.

As you will be aware, Shropshire Council has been left in a dire financial state after 16 years of chaotic Conservative rule. Their financial mismanagement, along with the failure of successive governments to appreciate the costs of delivering services in a rural area, has left the unitary authority with a projected over-spend of up to £51m this year.

As a result, Shropshire has applied for exceptional financial support this year (25-26) and will issue a S114 notice unless that can be arranged.

I wrote to you on 13th November, and to your predecessor Angela Rayner, on 27th January. I attach both letters for your reference as they do not appear to have been read, responded to or heeded.

I requested a meeting with Minister McGovern on 3rd December which was attended by MPs of all parties representing Shropshire, including Labour. Minister McGovern appeared to not wish to discuss the detail of the exceptional financial support requested by Shropshire Council, but did suggest that the multi-year funding settlement would take into account Shropshire's ageing population, surging demand for social care and rurality.

Therefore I was astonished when informed by a journalist yesterday, the detail having not been made available to opposition MPs prior to Minister McGovern's statement, that Shropshire's central funding has been cut in cash terms, throughout the period of the funding settlement.

Part 2 (had to carry a small amount over from 1st image)
Shropshire has made cuts of around £90m in the last two years. This has had a significant impact on services. There is nothing left to cut in Shropshire, other than the libraries, parks and leisure centres that Minister McGovern yesterday reported would be protected.

Despite the assumption that Shropshire's residents will continue to shoulder the burden of a 5% Council Tax increase every year, Shropshire's core spending power grows by only 8%, compared to 11.9% for CIPFA peers, and 11.8% for similarly sparse areas.

I am unable to comprehend the logic of your department's calculations. Please could you set out for me:

How the balancing of low and high council tax areas has worked in the West Midlands. Neighbouring Telford, which does not require exceptional financial support and has the lowest Council Tax in the West Midlands, is reporting a £66m cash uplift.

How the formula has determined that a cash cut is appropriate given future demand for social care, the rurality of our area and the current financial distress.

How you expect Shropshire to be able to produce a balanced budget in any of the years of the funding settlement.

How you can be reconcile repeated assertions by Ministers at the Despatch Box that the additional costs of delivering services in rural areas would be taken into account, with the final financial settlements that have been delivered.

I look forward to your response.

Yours sincerely,

Helen Morgan

Wes Streeting really is an odious lickspittle cunt. Zack Polanski has more integrity in his little finger than Wes Streeting has in his entire being. Not my screenshot but someone I know, btw. I avoid that site like the plague.

As a cis woman, many eons ago, I used to race banger cars (for fun). I basically had no real competition from women (as it was a small local venue) so routinely raced the men. Who were fine with it. Until I started winning some races. Thankfully the race organisers told those who complained where

First £3 for a fucking loaf. I think not Morrisons. A small loaf, at that. Second, the cat trying to escape the bag! (Click to open image fully).
A 400g loaf of bread from Morrisons called All the trimmings loaf for £3.
At the bottom of the loaf, it almost appears like an angry cats face trying to escape the bag it is in.
