Not a felony - it's a violation of certain articles of the UCMJ (the set of codes that military personnel are subject to). While he would probably face court martial either way, they're definitely going to go hard on him because he was wearing dress blues while he did it.

Ooh - if you liked "Devolution", you should read Max Brooks' most famous book, "World War Z". It's nothing like the movie. He styled it like Studs Terkel's book, "The Good War": it's a collection of oral histories from the people who fought in the zombie war. Incredible book.
