Looking forward to getting my hands on a copy!

JG is a great pick! I think my answer is Cormac McCarthy, but honestly the lonely stoic cowboy might get a bit played out by decade three. Ballard would come with more variety for sure.

This was such an incredibly good piece of writing. Looking forward to more from Andrew!

Somewhat more detailed view of #TheCompendium. Artistically, it's very pleasing (these here are the inhabitants of the Grey Fortress). The text is for the most part, but some pages that would've been hard to read were replaced with printed text. Dozens of pages of useful random tables. /1

It is! In theory, anyway — I haven't played it yet. Honestly I bought it because of the Cowboy Bebop vibes but it doesn't seem like my kind of game.

This made me laugh like an idiot, but then we had to pause the movie while I was forced to explain why. "It's like if they said SMAP was announcing the story, but then it turns out it's a lady called Sue Mappu. Except better than that."

Yes, it's my favorite system for one-shots! Very easy to hack.

I am! Got a gameday on the 29th where I'm playing some Heroquest and testing a homebrew game, and trying to put together a oneshot in January. How about you?

There was one RPG book project that I wanted to have, and couldn't, because the author and prospective publisher were harassed and slandered. Now I do have it. Enter the Nympharium. Let the violence begin. #TheCompendium

So I've been wanting to give this a re-read for ages, and thought, "I'll wait for winter so it's all bleak & gloomy and mood-appropriate" and then every day has been like this.

probably a lot of good warhammer-related tweets being left behind on twitter but to my mind none can top this

I had my suspicions but I knew Kraven was actually in on the joke when this guy showed up with his comedy forehead. He doesn't play an evil genius, just a tracksuit-wearing henchman. Brilliant, 8/10

YOu're right, you should make some space by giving that heroquest to meeeeeeeeee

Today's reading. My friend has been recommending this book to me for YEARS.

Leading on from reading Badab War yesterday: got inspired to write a little squad-based wargame. Looking for a kind of swat team doors-and-corners vibe, using an initiative system I've had in mind for a while.

Today's reading! Found this as the complete boxed set on ebay not too long ago. It was still fairly expensive but I've wanted these for a long time. Almost done with part 2.

Shelfie #2: the tall books. Looking at this picture I realise I haven't actually had a chance to run ANY of these yet. Sad! I'll have to fix that.

@shirleyishmael.bsky.social for me it's At the Mountains of Madness I think. A real sense of time and adventure. But I adore all of the ones where it's just the author stand-in wandering around old towns and neighbourhoods in New England and finding, like, a spooky house that he can't find again.

Favourite winter movie? I can't decide if it's this or The Shining~

@pvttommyatkins.bsky.social "(extended of course)" oh but you GOTTA. I can't believe I left those out of my list, actually. But a bit like with you only picking Empire, I think I'd only pick Fellowship. I adore that movie, and I think I'd rather watch that 3 times over the trilogy!

@pvttommyatkins.bsky.social damn that's a question! Off the top of my head, and in no particular order: The Thing Sicario The Shining Blade Runner 2049 ...fifth would either be Predator or The Big Lebowski, depending on how I feel that particular second. You?

So looking forward to getting my hands on these 400 pages of pure LotFP-OSR-D&D-able goodness. (I have some of them as PDFs but, frankly, printed on paper they're much easier to use)
