I’m finally considering how hilarious it’s going to be when Jikook are released from their year and a half of intense togetherness after they filmed a reality show of intense togetherness only to continue their intense togetherness in inimitable Jikook style for the next decade

Jungkook's 2/15 WeVerse Letter So friendly. Friendly herbivore dinosaur friend, I miss you, too. A nice, comprehensive explanation of -지요 grammar ultimatekorean.com/ukr/023/ Same disclaimer: I'm just learning Korean. This translation stuff is kind of just public studying.

Screenshot of translation of Jungkook's 15 Feb 2025 Weverse post. Original Korean on left, my translation on right.

Transcript of English translation:

ARMY, you’re well right?

It seemed like the weather was letting up, but then it got cold again, which is precisely like the feeling of looking into myself these days

Today, (I’m noticing) the weather is particularly dreary

It’s still a while away, but at this point it seems like the pesky days are growing in number, too

In many ways, I’m having a night of many thoughts

In my imagination, I sometimes picture the image of ARMY and me filling a photo

Momentarily, with a small smile, I’m so happy

On the other hand, there are also times where I feel skepticism thinking, that’s just an imagining of now

Of course, I quite distrust that skepticism and will collect memories that are even more beautiful than what I imagine - and of course to that degree, I guess I’d better work hard at it, yeah? heh

With ARMY in mind, I never forget the fact that to this day y’all are the owners of the pencil that has written my story

That’s why I know well what I need to do, you know?

While I know that, I feel some impatience and anticipation and it seems like I’m a little unsteady

Nevertheless, since I’ve jotted down a couple of words, I think I shouldn’t sink too deep into such notions

It’s just… I think of you so terribly much - that’s just something I’d like you to know - there isn’t anything else I wish for heh

Thank you, for reading my letter

I miss you today, too

Forever waiting

Please take good care of your health, everyone

I love you

Translation Notes

- I really like when JK addresses us because he sprinkles in really friendly, conversational grammar. Korean often marks social distance explicitly through grammatical structures, and the grammar JK sometimes gravitates towards shortens that distance:
- -지요 ending is a social ending and is used several different ways here
- It tends to sound friendly and like the speaker has positive regard for you.
- Link to a great explanation of all its uses in post.
- -네요 is grammar expressing observation
- This is often used with spontaneous reactions to things and has an emotive feel.
- (But you can also say this flatly and it can sound kinda droll. ㅎ)
- -다가도 indicates that one thing was happening, and then there was a turn of events
- In this case, SK had been having a bad cold snap, it seemed like it was warming up, turn of events, now it’s cold and yuck again.
